Plaintiff Personal Injury Litigation Lawyer
At Henry Carus + Associates (HC+A), we exist for one reason: to fight for our clients and achieve the best possible outcome for their injury compensation claims.
Led by Principal Henry Carus, we are a specialist plaintiff personal injury law firm built on compassion, expertise, and results. Every client is treated as an individual—not a file number—and our No Win, No Fee commitment ensures quality legal representation remains accessible to those who need it most.
We pride ourselves on delivering five-star service not only to our clients but also to each other. If you're looking for a firm where your work genuinely matters, where you'll be supported and challenged, and where you can build a meaningful legal career, HC+A could be the perfect fit.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Personal Injury Litigation Lawyer who thrives in contested matters and genuinely enjoys the practice of litigation.
This role is ideally suited to someone who sees themselves as a litigator first—someone who enjoys developing litigation strategy, preparing matters for hearing, working closely with counsel, advocating for clients, and confidently progressing matters through the court process where required.
You'll manage your own caseload across:
- TAC Claims
- WorkCover Claims
- Public Liability and/or
- Medical Negligence
This is a genuine opportunity to step into a more senior role, mentor junior practitioners, contribute to the strategic direction of matters, and play an important part in building and developing your own team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse plaintiff personal injury caseload from intake through to resolution.
- Develop litigation strategies and progress matters confidently through the court process.
- Prepare pleadings, affidavits, witness statements, submissions and other court documents.
- Conduct client conferences and provide practical, strategic legal advice.
- Prepare and run impairment benefit claims and Serious Injury applications.
- Brief and work closely with barristers on complex litigation.
- Negotiate with insurers and opposing parties from a position of strength.
- Appear at mediations, conciliations, interlocutory hearings, VCAT proceedings and court hearings where appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to maximise client outcomes through strategic litigation.
- Mentor and support junior lawyers and paralegals.
- Contribute to the continued growth, reputation and success of the firm.
About You
We're looking for more than technical ability—we're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys litigation and wants to build a long-term career as a plaintiff advocate.
Ideally, you will have
- A current Victorian Practising Certificate (or eligibility for admission in Victoria).
- Demonstrated experience in plaintiff personal injury litigation.
- Strong experience managing litigated matters, including court procedures, pleadings, interlocutory processes and settlement negotiations.
- Experience in TAC, WorkCover, Public Liability and/or Medical Negligence matters.
- Confidence working closely with counsel and preparing matters for hearing.
- Excellent strategic thinking and sound legal judgement.
- Strong written advocacy and communication skills.
- The ability to explain complex legal issues in clear, practical language.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A genuine commitment to achieving exceptional outcomes for injured clients.
- A collaborative leadership style and a desire to mentor others.
Salary package
We value and reward exceptional performance. The successful candidate will receive an attractive salary package commensurate with experience, together with discretionary performance bonuses that recognise outstanding client outcomes, contribution to the Firm and professional leadership.
Why HC+A?
At HC+A, we value lawyers who are prepared to roll up their sleeves, think strategically and fight for the best possible outcomes for our clients. You'll work alongside experienced litigators in a supportive and high-performing environment where advocacy, initiative and professional growth are genuinely encouraged.
If you're looking for a role where you can do more than simply manage files—where you can litigate, lead and make a real difference—we'd love to hear from you.
