Haltech is a world leader in aftermarket automotive performance electronics. We are part of Race Winning Brands which also owns Dart (blocks and heads), JE Pistons, Wiseco, Diamond Pistons, Boostline and MGP rods, Manley, PAC springs and many performance component manufacturers.
We’re looking for an excellent firmware team leader. Someone who can lead a team and keep them focused on the goal, but also make sure we’re building awesome products. Someone who can be accountable and hold others accountable, but also be supportive of the team and empower the members.
If you can’t read a schematic, can’t use an oscilloscope, or you’re the kind of person to pick up the wrong end of the soldering iron, then you’re not a firmware person. We need people who can read a schematic and know what they need to put in the registers to make the hardware do its job, and use a scope to see that it’s working correctly.
We also need mature people who have worked in a “proper” development environment; know how to work in teams with Git, Jira and so on, can write code so that it can be reviewed, can review others’ code, understand branching and merge conflicts and that kind of thing. Our “stack” is quite tall and the person we want will understand the overall architecture.
We want someone who can run a firmware project. An example might be to refactor the code from an existing product to use a common codebase we already use for other products to allow consistency for the user, or it might be write all the firmware required for a new product. It could also be to add a new feature to an existing product. This requires working out the goals, scope and deliverables of the project, work breakdown, work estimation, execution and maintenance of the project.
Here are some of the details of the technology we mostly use:
- Microcontrollers – NXP (Power architecture), STM32, ESP32. Occasional Xylinx FPGA
- Languages – C, C++ (C# and Python for PC, Flutter for mobile)
- Build chain – VSCode, gcc, cmake, Jenkins – IAR for STM32 but phasing that out.
- Revision/workflow/knowledge management – Git/Jira/Confluence
