About the Role
The Community Support Team Member is responsible for delivering person-centred support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disabilities, Elders and other community members requiring assistance. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including working alongside our clients to deliver domestic assistance, social support, and community engagement, while promoting individual choice, dignity, and cultural safety. The role works across several programs, including Disability Supports, NDIS, Community Groups, Queensland Community Support Scheme (QCSS), and the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP). The CSO will provide culturally safe services through ATSICHS Brisbane to support the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. The role is heavily based on promoting independence and capacity building in our clients we support.
Duties
- Provide tailored support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disabilities to enhance their independence and quality of life.
- Implement individual support plans and report on participant progress.
- Provide in-home support, including meal preparation and medication reminders.
- Facilitate social inclusion by supporting clients in attending community events and activities.
- Conduct scheduled wellbeing checks for Elders, ensuring their needs are being met.
- Adhere to workplace health and safety standards, including infection control procedures.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and continuous professional development.

Skills and Experiences:
Required
- Experience in disability support, aged care, or community services.
- Understanding of person-centred and culturally safe practices.
- Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
Desirable
- Qualification in Community Services, Disability, Aged Care, or a related field.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of NDIS and aged care sector regulations.
Additional Requirements
- National Police Certificate.
- Current Working with Children Card (Blue Card) or be eligible to apply.
- NDIS Worker Screening (Yellow Card) or eligibility to apply.
- Driver's Licence.
- Evidence of Work Rights.
- Travel between work sites on a regular basis.
- Flexibility in working hours.
