Position Overview:
We are looking for a highly motivated Field Service Technician to join our team, providing on-site and remote technical support across Australia & New Zealand and PNG. This role involves installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and training on sophisticated laboratory equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Service & Technical Support:
- Perform installation, commissioning, calibration, preventive maintenance, and repairs on analytical instruments at customer sites.
- Provide on-site and remote troubleshooting for customers via phone and email.
- Operate and test analytical instruments, simulating real-world conditions to ensure accuracy and compliance with ASTM and other industry standards.
- Work with Particle and Material Science, Elemental, Physical Properties, Spectroscopy and Chromatography analyzers, ensuring optimal performance.
Customer Training & Relationship Management:
- Conduct training sessions for customers on instrument operation, maintenance, and best practices.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.
- Provide recommendations and technical insights to customers regarding instrument performance and optimization.
Service Contracts & Sales Support:
- Assist in maintaining and selling service contracts to customers.
- Work closely with the sales team to identify opportunities for upselling maintenance services, spare parts, and extended warranties.
- Provide feedback on customer needs and competitor activity to help drive business growth.
Application Testing & Validation:
- Perform calibration and verification tests based on ASTM and industry-specific methods.
- Validate system performance and functionality by testing parameters such as:
- Particle Size, Flash point, RVP, Spectroscopy, Distillation, Viscosity, Cold flow properties, Thermal oxidation, Elemental analysis, Chromatography and other physical properties testing.
- Assist customers in troubleshooting analytical applications to optimize performance.
Documentation & Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate service records, including installation reports, maintenance logs, and customer feedback.
- Ensure all service-related inventory is properly documented and transferred before and after assigned jobs.
- Timely submission of service reports, travel expenses, and administrative tasks in the ERP system.
Compliance & Safety:
- Follow strict safety policies at customer sites, laboratories, and refineries.
- Adhere to company policies regarding laboratory standards, handling of chemicals, and safety protocols.
Qualifications & Experience
Education & Technical Background:
- Bachelor’s, Trade Qualification or associate’s degree in chemistry, Electronics, Instrumentation, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience on service and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation products
- Industry experience in petrochemical, refining, or industrial laboratory environments is a strong advantage.
- Knowledge of ASTM testing methods and standards is preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong problem-solving skills in a technical environment.
- Hands-on experience with instrument calibration, repairs, and troubleshooting.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong computer skills, including ERP systems, remote diagnostic tools, and technical reporting.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Other Requirements:
- Frequent travel across Australia & New Zealand (up to 70% fieldwork).
- Must have a valid driver’s license and passport (occasional international travel may be required).
- Must be legally eligible to work in Australia without restrictions.
