Senior Project Officer
Location: Parramatta/ Orange (hybrid working)
Employment type: Temporary Full Time up to 28 February 2030
Salary: Clerk Grade 9/10 ($133,348 - $146,945 pa), plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
Your role
The Senior Project Officer plays a key role in delivering complex infrastructure projects that support the Department of Communities and Justice's strategic objectives. The role is responsible for leading the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects to ensure they are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
Working closely with senior leaders, project teams and external stakeholders, the role provides expert advice, manages project risks, oversees contracted providers and supports informed decision making to achieve successful project outcomes.
What you’ll do
The day-to-day responsibilities include managing multiple infrastructure projects through all stages of the project lifecycle, including planning, procurement, delivery, reporting and project close out.
The role monitors project performance, manages budgets and financial reporting, identifies and mitigates project risks, coordinates consultants and contractors, prepares governance documentation and business cases, and provides regular updates to senior management. It also requires building strong stakeholder relationships, resolving issues, ensuring compliance with legislative and policy requirements, and maintaining effective project governance throughout delivery.
The successful candidate will join the Infrastructure and Assets division within Corporate Services, working as part of a collaborative and high performing project delivery team responsible for delivering complex capital infrastructure projects across New South Wales. The environment is fast paced and outcomes focused, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement and delivering value for the community.
Team members work closely with project managers, technical specialists, executives, contractors and external stakeholders, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, integrity and shared responsibility for achieving project outcomes.
What we’re looking for
The ideal candidate is an experienced infrastructure project professional with demonstrated success delivering complex capital works projects from planning through to completion. They will possess strong project management skills, sound financial and commercial acumen, and experience managing procurement, contracts, budgets, project risks and stakeholder relationships.
They will be an effective communicator who can influence, negotiate and build productive relationships with diverse stakeholders while maintaining a strong focus on governance, safety and quality outcomes. Tertiary qualifications in project management, engineering, construction, property or a related discipline, together with project management certification or equivalent experience, would be highly regarded.
The successful candidate will demonstrate resilience, sound judgement, integrity, strong analytical skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
