We’re looking for a confident, bubbly, outgoing and well-presented person to provide companionship to a client with disability. The role includes both in-home and out-of-home activities.
Out-of-home activities may include going to the gym, lunches, dinners, movies and other recreational activities. In-home activities include preparing simple snacks, reading together, watching TV/movies and being present if they nap. The companion will be expected to actively engage in activities and contribute to conversation.
Our ideal candidate is currently studying at university and looking for flexible casual work they can maintain alongside their studies for the next few years. They lead an active lifestyle, have an interest in fitness or sport, and have their own hobbies and interests to share with the client.
This position will initially be offered on a casual basis. After an initial period, there may be an opportunity to transition to part-time employment if the companion would prefer this arrangement.
Applicants must be available on either Mondays or Wednesdays, with occasional availability on either Thursdays or Fridays.
This is not a Disability Support Worker role. Applicants specifically seeking disability support work should refer to our separate Support Worker advertisement. While some aspects of this position may overlap with support work, this role is focused on companionship. Companions will be expected to actively participate rather than simply attend, remain present and complete routine support tasks.
You’ll work independently and communicate directly with the client about activities, preferences and scheduling. Good judgement, confidence and the ability to manage changing situations without close supervision are important.
This position may not suit someone seeking guaranteed full-time hours, fixed weekly shifts, remote work or a traditional disability support position.
