A high-performing mortgage broking business is looking for an experienced Learning & Development Manager to build broker capability, lift credit quality, and improve approval outcomes across the business. This is a hands-on, credit-led coaching role suited to someone who enjoys developing people, solving complex deals, and setting a consistent “best practice” standard across submissions.
The role
You’ll partner closely with brokers (junior through senior) to strengthen technical knowledge, confidence, and decision-making across a broad range of lending scenarios. You’ll also design and deliver onboarding and ongoing learning programs, plus provide practical credit guidance to improve file quality, reduce rework, and increase first-time approval success.
Key responsibilities
- Provide practical 1:1 and group coaching across different broker experience levels
- Identify capability gaps and implement targeted development plans
- Mentor brokers through complex credit scenarios, escalations and challenging structures
- Coach across credit assessment, policy interpretation, servicing/scenario analysis, deal structuring and FSA issues
- Support lender alignment and escalation strategies, including lender/BDM communication where required
- Develop and deliver onboarding plus ongoing learning programs (workshops, case studies, scenario training)
- Deliver timely training updates on lender policy changes, compliance requirements and market developments
- Create and maintain playbooks, guides, templates and training resources
- Promote consistent standards across submission quality, credit notes, supporting docs and file presentation
- During overflow periods: assist with qualifying opportunities, preparing/lodging applications, and supporting files through to approval and settlement with proactive updates
What we’re looking for
- Strong mortgage broking and credit expertise when it comes to policy, servicing, structuring and responsible lending
- Proven experience coaching, mentoring or training brokers/credit teams (or a clear capability to step into this)
- Confident communicator who can simplify complex information and drive consistency
- Quality-focused and analytical, with a practical improvement mindset
- Accredited and experienced Mortgage Broker, able to write loans and support the team with overflow when necessary
