Support world-leading research on children’s cancer through pragmatic assurance frameworks
For over 40 years, our shared commitment to curing childhood cancer has united us. Together, we continue to accelerate the answers to make that possible.
To accomplish our vision, we’re seeking someone who lives our values: owning and delivering meaningful work, collaborating to drive impact, challenging the status quo to create a better future, and balancing logic with empathy. Let’s achieve more, together.
The Assurance Officer is a critical role in maintaining and strengthening the Institute’s assurance environment. You will support the design, implementation and ongoing improvement of the Institute’s assurance frameworks — including, but not limited to, the Policy Framework, Risk and Compliance Frameworks, Conflicts of Interest Framework, External Complaints Framework and Privacy Framework. Reporting to the Head of Risk & Assurance and collaborating across all teams, you will help embed a culture of accountability that enables our researchers and professional staff to do great work with confidence.
This role is well-suited to an assurance professional who is passionate about accountability and regulatory best practice, who can communicate assurance requirements in a practical and accessible way, and who thrives in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment. You will be a self-starter who brings creative problem-solving, strong stakeholder skills and a commitment to continuous improvement. This role is not about compliance tick boxes – our Assurance culture isn’t about saying ‘no’, it’s about asking ‘how can we’.
You will be a great fit if you have…
- Relevant tertiary qualification in law, business or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an assurance or risk management role, ideally within a research, health or higher education environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience applying Australian regulatory and assurance requirements relevant to medical research institutes or an equivalent field.
- Proven ability to draft, review and implement policies, procedures and frameworks that are both legally sound and practically workable.
- Experience coordinating and monitoring assurance review processes.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex assurance matters clearly to varied audiences.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, SharePoint, Teams); experience with risk or assurance management systems.
We will support you to be your best with benefits that include but are not limited to:
- Working in a world-class, purpose-built facility, the only one in Australia dedicated to curing childhood cancer
- Focus on employee wellbeing, including up to 5 gifted wellbeing days off (paid) per year
- Access to Fitness Passport, with access to an extensive choice of fitness facilities across Sydney at discounted rates
- Corporate discounts and discounts on education through UNSW
