MC Labour has worked alongside Tasmania’s builders for more than 20 years, supporting major projects across the state with a locally managed team and deep on-the-ground knowledge. Our people have contributed to some of Tasmania’s most significant developments, including the Hobart Airport redevelopment, the new Royal Hobart Hospital, MONA and the Bridgewater Bridge replacement.
That local expertise is backed by a national business with extensive construction experience and long-standing relationships with many of Australia’s leading builders. But our success in Tasmania has always been driven by people who understand the local market, workforce and industry.
As we continue to invest in the region, we are looking for an experienced local leader to build on that foundation and lead the next phase of growth.
You’ll be the key local contact for our clients, workforce and industry partners across Tasmania — the person builders call when they need crew on site, and the person skilled workers trust to place them well. Success in this role comes from doing both exceptionally: building a strong local workforce and winning the clients to put them to work.
The national team supports you on sales, finance and payroll. You report directly to the leadership team, with genuine autonomy to run the operation and the backing to grow it.
There’s plenty of work coming in Tasmania, the stadium build among it. You’ll have the opportunity to shape and grow the local business with an established national team behind you.
- End-to-end management of the Tasmanian operation: from the first conversation with a builder to the right worker on the right site
- Winning new clients and building long-term relationships with builders, contractors and project teams across Tasmania
- Growing single-site clients into statewide partnerships over time
- Working with clients to understand what crews they need, when, and where
- Actively building the local workforce — sourcing, interviewing, vetting and placing the right people on the right jobs
- Scheduling, systems, processes and site safety. Running the operation well.
- Looking after stakeholders: builders, contractors, workers, unions and industry bodies
- Representing MC Labour on sites, at industry events and across the Tasmanian market
- Hands-on knowledge of how a construction site operates, from project planning through to crew on the ground
- A track record of winning new business and keeping client relationships, not just landing the first job
- An established network across the Tasmanian construction industry — builders, contractors and reliable workers you know and trust, and the ability to keep growing that pool of talent.
- The judgement to run the operation independently, and to know when something needs to go up the line
- Focused on Tasmania, but with an eye on how the local business connects to the wider one
- The opportunity to lead and grow the Tasmanian operation, with national support and a direct reporting line to the leadership team
- A 30-year business with an established reputation in the construction industry
- Work on major Tasmanian projects as they come online, the stadium among them
- Competitive base salary plus performance-based bonus
- Fully maintained vehicle, fuel card, phone and laptop
- Hobart-based office and a team that backs each other
