This role works collaboratively with a team of policy advisers to develop and implement strategic policies and frameworks, to address trends relevant to corrective services. In this role you will:
The primary accountabilities of the Principal Advisor role include:
Develop and implement strategic policies and frameworks for QCS
Prepare complex submissions and reports, briefing notes, presentations, publications and correspondence for various audiences, including Cabinet, Parliament and the general public.
Develop advice for the Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners or Commissioner and the Minister in relation to emerging issues, significant policy platforms and legislative amendments proposed by other Government departments.
Analyse emerging issues relating to offenders and corrective services that may be addressed through policy, legislative or procedural changes.
Develop QCS policies consistent with the Whole of Government agenda
Develop and deliver policies that meet community needs and expectations
Maintain own level of knowledge of legislation, policy and procedures in relation to the management of offenders
Exchange information with relevant agencies to optimise policy development and implementation consistent with the highest standards of community safety
Establish and implement protocols and procedures in accordance with relevant legislation
Develop productive relationships with relevant community agencies to enhance the community's regard for the services QCS can provide
Negotiate with other Government agencies and key stakeholders as required to ensure the achievement of divisional and departmental priorities and outcomes
Maintain partnerships between the QCS and other key stakeholders to inform strategic policy development and effectively meet the needs of clients
Provide high quality reports, submissions and critical analysis on significant and substantive policy issues
Manage the operational planning process for QCS and coordinate QCS input into the Department's strategic plan
Ensure appropriate decision making regarding the development and implementation of policies across the QCS
Initiate, coordinate and project manage activities which deliver clearly specified policy outcome
Provide high level advice to the Director, Strategic Policy on legislative and policy issues and the options and strategies for managing emerging policy issues
