What you'll be doing
The CYMHS headspace Youth Mental Health Initiative is a new multidisciplinary service providing enhanced specialist care for young people aged from 12- 24 (up to the age of 25) presenting to headspace Chatswood and Brookvale services with moderate to severe mental health needs but not meeting the threshold for NSLHD community CYMHS or adult mental health services. Within this cohort, to ensure the Youth Mental Health initiative (YMH) can deliver quality clinical care within the CYMHS clinical governance structure for the initial three years of its operation, this service will have a particular focus on young people aged 12-24 presenting with emerging or first episode psychosis; and adolescents aged 12-17 with other moderate to severe mental health concerns requiring enhanced specialist, multidisciplinary, and systemic intervention.
This service will be embedded within and will work collaboratively with headspace to provide assessment, evidence-based interventions, collaborative care planning with young people, their parents/caregivers, and other systems of support as appropriate. The service will collaborate closely with headspace to provide cohesive and integrated mental health care and trauma-informed transfers of care between headspace and LHD services and vice versa.
This is a position in the Northern Sydney LHD Child & Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS), primarily based at Brookvale and Chatswood headspace.
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience as per clinical discipline and current AHPRA registration (or eligibility for membership of AASW for Social Workers). Social Work/Occupational Therapy requires experience as a level 2 clinician. Clinical Nurse Consultant will have at least 5 years fulltime equivalent post registration experience, and approved post graduate qualifications or substantial relevant clinical experience within this setting. Clinical Psychologist will have a postgraduate master’s or Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from an APAC accredited University.
- Extensive knowledge, skills and experience in providing assessment, formulation, and evidence-based individual and family interventions such as CBT, DBT, attachment-based therapies, and family therapy in the treatment of serious mental health problems in young people and/or early intervention for first episode psychosis for young people aged 12-24. Demonstrated knowledge and application of systemic intervention principles in collaboration with broader system stakeholders for ongoing care.
