We are seeking an experienced and visionary Data and AI Capability Lead to drive the development and implementation of advanced data and artificial intelligence capabilities across the agency. This role is critical in shaping the organisation’s approach to data-driven decision-making, AI adoption, and digital transformation.
As an EL 1 Data & AI Capability Lead, you will provide strategic leadership, build technical capability, and ensure that AI and data initiatives align with APS values, security requirements, and organisational priorities. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, technical teams, and external partners to deliver innovative and ethical solutions.
DUTIES
As an EL 1 Data & AI Capability Lead you will be required to
- In collaboration with the Director Data and AI capability, lead the development and execution of the agency’s Data and AI capability roadmap.

Establish best practices for data and AI initiatives.

Drive capability uplift through training, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing programs.

Oversee the delivery of AI literacy projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives and compliance requirements.

Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for AI-driven improvements.

Monitor and evaluate AI solutions for performance, ethics, and security compliance.

Represent the agency in cross-government forums and industry engagements on AI and data.
ELIGIBILITY
- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).

Any successful candidate external to DVA offered employment will be required to undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.

Any successful candidate will also be required to obtain and/or maintain, a baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance as a minimum.
