I’m Able Support Network – Casual
I’m Able Support Network is looking for a calm, patient and reliable Community Mentor / Disability Support Worker to support a nearly 15-year-old female participant in Victor Harbor.
The role involves supporting her to explore volunteering and community activities that match her interests, including:
- Animal-related volunteering
- Op shops and retail-based volunteering
- Floristry and plant-related activities
- Community participation and social activities
- Building confidence, independence and routine
Hours and availability
- Up to 9 hours per week
- Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
- Available from 10:00 am onwards
- Exact hours and schedule to be discussed based on participant needs and volunteer opportunities
About the participant
The participant is autistic and has a Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile. She benefits from someone who is calm, flexible and understands that traditional instructions or too many questions can feel overwhelming.
She enjoys:
- Animals
- Cheerleading
- Spending time around younger people and youth-oriented activities
- Exploring meaningful community opportunities
About you
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Have experience supporting autistic teenagers, particularly people with a PDA profile
- Communicate calmly and speak at a measured pace
- Avoid asking unnecessary or repeated questions
- Can build trust without forcing conversation or participation
- Are flexible when plans need to change
- Enjoy animals, community activities, retail, floristry or volunteering
- Are comfortable supporting a teenager while maintaining professional boundaries
- Are reliable, patient and not easily overwhelmed
- Have a warm, youthful and relatable communication style
- The participant requests a female
Experience with autism, PDA, positive behaviour support, youth work, mentoring or community access is highly valued.

- Working With Children Check
- Current First Aid and CPR
- Infection control training
- Australian driver’s licence, reliable vehicle, registration and insurance
- Full working rights in Australia
