Hutchinson Ag is a family run mixed farming business located on the Dawson River, 25 km from Moura or 200 kms south west of Rockhampton QLD. Our business is of 8258 Ha over 4 farms and has been rapidly expanding over the past 10 years. Some 2200 Ha is under irrigation and further large-scale irrigation development is being undertaken.
Currently the irrigation cropping, is principally cotton and depending on season, grain crops of corn, chickpea, wheat and mung beans. Alongside of this we run a 1,100 breeder herd of Droughtmaster / Santa beef cattle crossed with Angus and Charolais. The combination of crops and cattle provides a diverse range of duties from irrigation development to crop and cattle production.
We are proud of our collaborative, innovative workplace utilising modern machinery, equipment and techniques to develop new irrigation fields for production of high quality crops. Hutchinson Ag is a Best Management Practice (BMP} accredited farm. We work with the local school in promoting and introducing students to irrigation development and cotton farming.
We are looking for multiple full-time Agri Technicians (up to 5) to help take the business to the next level. Salary being offered is between $95,000 and $100,000 for a 45-hour work week, depending on experience and skill. Accommodation of farm is available as part of the employment package.
Responsibilities:
The Agri Technician will be responsible for providing technical support for the cropping and livestock activities, and will be required to work closely with the Farm Managers, Owners and Agronomists to achieve optimal farming outcomes.
Tasks Required:
- Cattle Health: Monitoring the health and welfare of animals, identifying and treating illnesses and injuries, administering vaccinations, monitoring nutritional needs, and implementing preventative measures to keep the flock healthy.
- Animal Husbandry: Assisting with the management of breeding programs, including artificial insemination, monitoring breeding cycles, and administering of veterinary medicine as required, and assisting with the calving or birthing process
- Crop Maintenance: Providing technical support in relation to preparing soil, monitoring soil quality including applying fertilizers and pesticides as required, monitoring irrigation and nutrient levels.
- Pest and Disease Control: Identifying pests, diseases, and weeds that can harm crops and livestock, and implementing control measures including maintaining accurate records of chemicals and veterinary drugs administered.
Experience Required:
- At least 3 years’ experience
- Experience in irrigated farming, earthmoving and mechanical fields
