About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced people leader and technical expert to lead Council’s Building Certification and Technical Compliance functions. As Manager Building Certification & Technical Compliance, you will provide strategic and operational leadership to teams that play a critical role in supporting safe, compliant and well-managed development outcomes across the City.
This newly created leadership role has been established to strengthen Council’s approach to building certification and technical compliance, with a focus on building team capability, improving service delivery and driving operational excellence. You will have the opportunity to shape the future direction of the service, develop a high-performing team and make a visible impact across the organisation and community.
In this role you will:
- Lead and manage the Building Certification and Technical Compliance teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused regulatory services.
- Provide specialist advice and make informed decisions relating to building certification, compliance, regulatory matters and statutory enforcement activities.
- Drive continuous improvement through reviewing processes, monitoring performance and implementing initiatives that enhance service delivery and operational effectiveness.
Coach, mentor and develop technical professionals while fostering a positive, accountable and high-performing team culture.

About you
You are a leader who brings strong technical expertise, sound judgement and a genuine passion for developing people. You build trust, lift performance and lead teams confidently through change, while maintaining a clear focus on customer outcomes, compliance and continuous improvement.
You will also bring:
- Relevant and recent experience in a regulatory policy and compliance role within Local Government or a similar enforcement agency.
- Extensive leadership experience within Building Certification, Building Compliance or Technical Compliance functions, including leading high-performing technical teams and developing professional capability.
- Track record of successfully leading performance improvement, service enhancement and change initiatives while maintaining team engagement and accountability.
- Strong technical knowledge of building certification, compliance and NSW planning and development legislation, with the ability to mentor and support technical professionals.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the confidence to navigate complex issues and challenging conversations.
