Primary objective
The Senior Trainer – Youth Justice is responsible for providing, facilitating and brokering training and other professional
development programs for the staff of Youth Justice to assist in the ongoing implementation of training and workforce development
strategies.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop and manage the implementation of workforce education, training and development projects to increase the
effectiveness of the Agency.
2. Develop and manage staff training and development programs by assessing training needs and finding innovative training
solutions linked to national competency standards for the Agency.
3. Plan, develop and implement training and professional development projects to improve client outcomes and develop career
pathways for Youth Justice staff.
4. Coordinate, monitor and review trainee’s performance, progress, rotations and development requirements through the
Department of Corrections Professional Development Framework and national Vocational Education and Training (VET)
requirements.
5. Develop and maintain strong communication with executive management and key stakeholder groups to ensure successful
coordination, delivery and implementation of workforce development projects.
6. Prepare and present briefings, reports and recommendations on workforce development initiatives, and maintain relevant
training, project and contract management data.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
2. Proven ability to facilitate trainings, workshops, meetings and other internal and external group learning sessions.
3. Proven ability to use strategic, conceptual and analytical skills to identify and develop innovative solutions to complex
problems.
4. Experience in project management, specifically: planning, budgeting, reviewing, assessing and reporting on programs.
5. Proven ability to manage change to meet organisational directions and encourage others to develop new ideas and methods
of operating in relation to the delivery of workforce development programs.
6. Proven ability to exercise discretion, initiative, flexibility and confidentiality and to influence and implement change.
7. High level ability to provide advice to executive management on strategic staff development initiatives.
8. High level oral and written communication skills including the ability to effectively negotiate, consult and collaborate and build
strong professional working relationships with colleagues, external clients, the community and industry representatives.
9. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Qualifications or demonstrated relevant experience in youth justice, youth outreach or child protection services
2. Current Northern Territory driver’s licence or the ability to obtain and willingness to travel.
