This role is based in Darwin, Northern Territory.
As our Senior Network Engineer, you’ll provide expert technical support across the Mobile, BNS, Transmission and Fibre networks in the Northern Territory. You’ll operate autonomously across complex technical situations, delivering assurance and field activities across the Darwin Exchange, FAN, SAP and other Optus network sites. You’ll also coordinate contractors, mentor Network Engineers and keep the Exchange Manager informed of significant events, incidents and escalations.
What You’ll Do
Ability to participate in an on-call roster.
A current driver licence and the ability to travel between infrastructure locations are required.
Perform routine, preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance across Transmission and Customer Premises equipment, including fibre damages and relocations.
Act as a subject matter expert for complex faults, providing technical support to the team and developing job aids, operational documents and improved processes.
Coordinate resources, parts, materials and work activities to deliver Service Assurance and Service Delivery tasks efficiently and within agreed KPIs.
Lead quality audits and commissioning activities for new and upgraded network elements, while supervising contractors and managing work health, safety and security requirements.
Manage spares and test equipment, support the NT Assurance team and liaise with Network Management, Operations Centres, engineering teams, Customer Delivery, Legal and other stakeholders to resolve issues and deliver outcomes.
Mentor Network Engineers, promote Optus values and contribute to a one-team culture and continuous improvement through LEAN principles.
What makes you perfect for the role?
Around three years’ experience working with telecommunications systems, with knowledge of Mobile, BNS, Transmission and Fibre networks.
A Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant transmission and vendor equipment training.
Strong understanding of fault restoration, network maintenance requirements and the network supported by the role, with demonstrated ability to resolve complex technical issues autonomously.
Experience using NSM and Optus systems such as HELIX and NMS, with general Microsoft Office skills. Knowledge of IP configuration, FTP, HTTP, TCP/IP, routing techniques and VLANs would be advantageous.
High-level written and verbal communication skills, a calm and positive approach under pressure, a commitment to quality and safety, and the ability to mentor others and work effectively with contractors and stakeholders.
