We are seeking two in-house Legal Specialists to join our Claims Business Unit. In this role, you will leverage your legal expertise and workers compensation knowledge to strategically manage and resolve claims involving litigation.
You will play a key role in:
Preparing and managing Work Injury Damages (WID) claims
Overseeing statutory litigation matters within the Personal Injury Commission
Managing other legally complex claims
Undertaking legal project work
Providing expert legal guidance and support to EML’s Nominal Insurer claims teams and policy holders
Reporting to the Legal Manager, you will contribute to achieving EML’s performance targets and organisational objectives while delivering a high standard of service to stakeholders.

This will be a permanent, full time position based in the Sydney or Newcastle, with work-from-home flexibility (up to 3 days per week) considered from month three, subject to performance and approval.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide timely, accurate legal advice to support the claims team on legislative, regulatory and policy matters relating to workers’ compensation, enabling sound, evidence-based decision making.
Partner closely with external legal panel providers to ensure high-quality advice and the development of effective litigation strategies that achieve optimal outcomes.
Represent EML in legal proceedings alongside external legal representatives.
Contribute to strategic portfolio reviews, including presenting to employers on key legal principles and individual claim matters where required.
Monitor and interpret emerging case law and precedents impacting claims management, premiums and the broader scheme, ensuring insights are embedded into practice.
ABOUT YOU
1–3 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally within a Workers Compensation practice managing Work Injury Damages (WID) and statutory workers compensation matters.
Proven experience in a comparable legal role operating within a fast-paced, commercially focused environment.
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management
