Anan Care Services Pty Ltd is seeking a highly skilled, compassionate, and professional Support Worker to provide 1:1 community access support for a young NDIS participant based in Bardia, NSW.
This role requires an experienced support worker who prioritises participant safety, dignity, and positive behaviour support, with the ability to follow clinical guidelines and manage complex behavioural needs in the community.
About the Role
You will provide individualised support to assist the participant with safe community access, engagement in meaningful activities, and skill development while implementing strategies outlined in the participant’s Interim Behaviour Support Plan.
The successful candidate will have strong emotional maturity, excellent communication skills, and the ability to remain calm and proactive in challenging situations.
Key Responsibilities & Safety Requirements
Transport Safety (Mandatory)
- Safely support participant transport using an Easy Travel Magnet Harness as required.
- Follow all transport safety procedures and emergency protocols.
- Be trained and confident in using an emergency seatbelt cutter if required.
Behaviour Support
- Implement strategies from the participant’s Interim Behaviour Support Plan.
- Use approved visual supports, including visual schedules and First–Then boards, to support communication and predictability.
- Promote positive behaviour support approaches at all times.
- Physical restraint practices (including “Bear Hugs”) are strictly prohibited.
Emergency Preparedness
- Remain calm and professional during incidents.
- Follow all incident management procedures.
- Contact 000 when required in serious emergency situations.
Understanding of Participant Support Risks
The successful applicant must understand and be able to safely manage identified risks, including:
- Elopement risk: Supporting the participant to remain safe, particularly around roads and traffic areas.
- Self-injurious behaviours: Responding appropriately to behaviours such as head-banging using approved strategies.
- Community and environmental risks: Managing situations involving public distress, agitation, or property-related risks.
- Vehicle safety: Maintaining a hazard-free vehicle environment with no loose, hard, or heavy objects that may cause injury.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience supporting participants with complex behaviours within the NDIS sector.
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Current Working with Children Check (WWCC).
- Reliable vehicle with a clean driving record.
- Strong understanding of participant safety, documentation, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to work independently while following support plans and safety procedures.
