About the Role
You will be working at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. It is one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history of serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities. The Occupational Therapist Level 4 provides advanced, evidence-based, strength-focused, and recovery-oriented Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention within the Adult Drug Court multidisciplinary team. The position manages a caseload of Drug Court clients, providing case management, care coordination, and occupational therapy interventions to support treatment engagement, behavioural change, recovery, and community reintegration.
To support client progress, the role delivers evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and relapse prevention. The position is responsible for undertaking Drug Court assessments, developing and reviewing coordinated treatment plans, preparing reports, and facilitating effective client transitions through comprehensive discharge planning.
The role will also receive and respond to referrals for Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention, and consultation from other internal Drug Health Services. Working collaboratively across services, the position provides specialist consultation and contributes to workforce development activities that enhance staff capability in supporting people with complex alcohol and other drug comorbidities.

Ideal Candidate
- Degree in Occupational Therapy and registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (AHPRA) as an Occupational Therapist and current NSW Driver’s Licence (P1 and P2 acceptable).
- Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge, skill and significant clinical experience in the provision of Drug and Alcohol Occupational Therapy.
- Extensive experience and demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional and therapeutic relationships through the application of written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to apply and share expert Drug and Alcohol knowledge with colleagues and other health professionals to enhance service delivery.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to identify opportunities and innovatively lead the planning, implementation and evaluation of service delivery incorporating continuous improvement, evidence based practice and research.
- Demonstrated extensive experience in the provision of clinical supervision, mentoring and development of junior staff and students.
- Demonstrated high level organisational, prioritisation and time management skills in an environment of competing clinical/administrative demands.
- Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including collaborative stakeholder consultation.
- Demonstrated ability to provide comprehensive case management for clients with complex psychosocial needs, including assessment, care planning, coordination of services, advocacy, risk management, and ongoing monitoring to support recovery-oriented outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to deliver evidence-based drug and alcohol therapeutic interventions, including motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, relapse prevention planning, and harm reduction strategies, to support clients in achieving their goals and reducing the harms associated with substance use.
