ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Senior Lighting Designer is responsible for designing and delivering lighting solutions across Museums Victoria's exhibitions, galleries and public spaces. Working as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, the role provides specialist lighting design expertise to support storytelling, showcase collection objects and create engaging visitor experiences.
The position leads lighting design across exhibitions, events and public spaces, contributing to concept development, design documentation and project delivery. The Senior Lighting Designer provides expert advice throughout the design and delivery process, ensuring lighting solutions are creative, practical, sustainable and fit for purpose, while supporting projects to be delivered on time and within budget.
Some of the key duties include:

Lead lighting design for exhibitions, galleries and events to enhance storytelling, object display and visitor engagement.

Develop lighting concepts, detailed designs, technical drawings and documentation for exhibitions and related programs.

Act as lead designer on major projects, contributing to project planning, schedules, budgets and design outcomes.

Collaborate with exhibition, audiovisual, multimedia and technical teams to integrate lighting within broader exhibition systems.

Oversee the installation, programming, commissioning and ongoing performance of lighting systems across Museums Victoria's venues.
The successful applicant will have:

Demonstrated experience leading design on large-scale exhibitions, visitor experiences or similar public-facing projects.

Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with experience working across multidisciplinary teams and managing stakeholders.

Highly developed lighting design and spatial design capabilities, with the ability to create engaging audience-focused experiences.

Sound technical knowledge of lighting systems and their integration with audiovisual and multimedia technologies.

Well-developed project management skills, including experience planning resources, managing budgets and delivering projects to deadlines.
OTHER INFORMATION
This is a full time and ongoing position. The salary on offer is a VPS4.1 Base salary of $100,894 per annum (pro rata) plus 12% superannuation.
The successful applicant is required to undergo a National Police Records Check and Working with Children Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost).
