We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused Garbage Truck Operator to join our Waste Services team on a casual basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced operator who enjoys working outdoors, contributing to the local community and being part of a professional Council team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Operating garbage and waste collection vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Collecting residential and commercial waste in accordance with Council schedules.
- Monitor and report on damaged bins, contaminated recyclables and issues with bin location.
- Completing pre-start vehicle inspections and reporting any faults or maintenance issues.
- Operating hydraulic lifting and waste collection equipment.
- Working cooperatively with Waste Services staff and the broader Council team.
- Providing courteous and professional service to members of the community.
- Following Council policies, work procedures, traffic regulations and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Drive and operate vehicles in a safe and competent manner within all road traffic laws and regulations.
- Maintaining a high standard of vehicle cleanliness and presentation.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A current HR (Heavy Rigid) driver's licence or higher.
- Previous experience operating heavy vehicles, preferably garbage collection or waste management vehicles.
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A reliable and responsible approach to attendance and work duties.
- The ability to undertake physically active outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Previous experience in local government or waste services will be highly regarded.
Your Working Environment (for eligible employees)
- All Uniforms & PPE supplied.
- 50% loading applies to work performed on a Saturday.
- 100% loading applies to work performed on a Sunday.
- Adverse Working Conditions Allowance
