What you'll be doing
As the Staff Specialist in Palliative Care you will play a pivotal role in delivering expert, contemporary care. You will:
- Be part of a world class palliative care team with doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals
- Deliver specialist palliative and end-of-life care through clinical consultation, outreach, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration across hospital, community, residential aged care, and virtual care settings.
- Provide face to face care in our regional centres of Wagga Wagga and/or Griffith, virtual care and prescribing support as part of a multidisciplinary on-call roster, and scheduled outreach clinics as required across the region.
- Support patients across MLHD with complex care needs through inpatient consultation, outpatient and home-based consultative services and virtual outreach services.
- Provide clinical leadership, education, training and mentoring in palliative and end of life to medical staff, specialist palliative care nurses and allied health professionals.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, specialist palliative care
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement and the ongoing growth of specialist palliative care across MLHD.

You will be based in Wagga Wagga or Griffith, joining a dedicated Specialist Palliative Care team that delivers high-quality services across the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.

Remuneration and Incentives
MLHD provides remuneration consistent with NSW Health statewide awards and determinations. Clinicians may also benefit from regional incentives, salary packaging opportunities, and flexible working arrangements designed to attract high quality medical practitioners to rural practice.
Remuneration depends on your appointment type, award classification, and scope of practice. The figures below are indicative only and represent what may be earned under applicable NSW Health awards and local arrangements.
- As a Staff Specialist, earn up to $275.85/hour (Specialist rate + practice rate)

- Extensive experience in the provision of direct patient care, with an ongoing commitment to clinical consulting in palliative medicine
- Demonstrated experience in teaching palliative medicine and end of life care to health care professionals, and in the community setting
- Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team and as a provider of services that produces high levels of patient satisfaction and experience
- A willingness to provide both face-to-face and digital health i.e. video-consulting to all LHD communities, residential aged care facilities and acute facilities across Murrumbidgee LHD, on an ongoing basis which will include travel
- Willingness to establish and facilitate formalised training appointments for medical, nursing and allied health staff in palliative and end of life care
- Demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement and clinical risk management; actively seek out improvements to service delivery; initiating change and consulting those affected by the change; allocating resources and proactively managing potential conflicts
