THE OPPORTUNITY
We're looking for a Supporting Hand to join our team based in Dandenong South , working across the South East Water network .
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating equipment and being part of a crew that keeps essential water services running. You'll work alongside experienced operators and technicians carrying out maintenance, repairs and emergency response work across the network.
Operating within a 24/7 maintenance contract , you'll be part of a team that responds to water main bursts, leaks, customer faults and planned maintenance activities. If you enjoy practical work, problem-solving and making a real difference in the community, this could be the role for you.
A typical day starts with a crew pre-start and vehicle checks before heading out to site. From there, you'll assist with excavation, maintenance and repairs, operate plant and equipment, help maintain safe work sites and complete job records electronically.
This role requires flexibility to work rotating day and afternoon shifts, along with participation in an on-call roster to support emergency response and after-hours works.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across South East Water assets.
- Assist with repairs to water mains, services, valves and hydrants.
- Respond to emergency repairs and customer faults across the network.
- Complete excavation, reinstatement and site clean-up activities.
- Safely operate tools, equipment and plant.
- Record completed works, photos and job details using electronic systems.
- Follow all safety, quality and environmental requirements.
Work closely with your crew to deliver quality outcomes for customers.

ABOUT YOU
- Experience in sewer maintenance, wastewater services or drainage operations.
- Skilled in operating high-pressure jetting equipment, vacuum systems and combination jet/vac trucks.
- Experience with hydro excavation, NDD, wet well cleaning, PCB cleaning and confined space work is highly regarded.
- Strong focus on safety and doing the job right first time.
- Reliable, hardworking and able to work well within a team environment.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently when required.
Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays and participate in an on-call roster.
