Senior Data Governance Analyst

At the NSW Department of Education, we educate and inspire lifelong learners – from early childhood, through schooling to vocational education and training.

About the role

The Senior Data Governance Analyst plays a pivotal role in ensuring the department’s information assets are well‑managed, safely shared, and strategically leveraged. You will lead initiatives that strengthen governance arrangements, uplift data capability, and embed robust privacy and information‑management practices across the organisation.

Working closely with the Chief Data Officer, project delivery teams, and a wide network of stakeholders, you will design, develop, and implement frameworks, policies, and procedures that support effective data management and compliance with privacy legislation.

This role is hands‑on, collaborative, and suited to someone who thrives in a dynamic environment balancing ongoing project work with BAU responsibilities. While not a people‑management position, you will influence, guide, and support subject matter experts, Directors, and Executive Directors to drive strong governance outcomes.

About you -

You are a proactive, confident communicator who can work autonomously while contributing to a collaborative team environment. You bring a strong customer‑service mindset, balancing BAU responsibilities with project‑driven work, and you’re comfortable engaging with a wide range of stakeholders—including Directors and Executive Directors.

You will excel in this role if you have:

Strong time‑management skills to juggle concurrent BAU and project activities.
Excellent communication capability, including the ability to translate governance concepts for diverse audiences.
Policy writing or governance experience with an understanding of compliance, assurance, and legislative requirements.
Initiative and autonomy in driving work forward while consulting and collaborating effectively.
A service‑oriented mindset that supports responsive, high‑quality engagement across the department.
Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

Bachelor’s degree or higher in information management or other related field and/or equivalent experience in information governance and privacy.
Current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance for paid employment.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
