About Us
Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission. Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The MCV determines in excess of 200,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, dealing with over 90 percent of all adult cases that come before Victorian courts each year.
MCV aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
The Koori Court is a specialist division of the Magistrates' Court of Victoria that works to improve access to justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through c ulturally responsive court processes. Its focus is on supporting better outcomes, reducing reoffending, and addressing the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the criminal justice system.
As part of the Court Practice & Services Division, the Koori Court works alongside a range of specialist courts and support programs designed to better meet the needs of Victoria's diverse communities.
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria is committed to supporting Koori and First Nations staff through a strong Koori Staff Network and its Self-Determination Action Plan. This includes initiatives focused on cultural safety, healing, addressing racism, strengthening culture, and increasing community-led decision making.
About the Role
Are you passionate about supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and strengthening community outcomes?
Join us as a Koori Court Officer, where your cultural knowledge, lived experience and community connection will help shape a more respectful and responsive justice system. In this role, you will play a vital part in delivering Koori Court sittings and supporting Aboriginal people and their families through their court journey. The Koori Court Officer plays a key role in delivering Koori Court at your local site, ensuring each sitting runs smoothly through effective coordination, administration and community engagement.
In this role, you will:
- Build trusted relationships and provide culturally informed, non-legal support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families attending court
- Connect people with appropriate local Aboriginal support services through referrals and information sharing
- Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families attending Koori Court
- Provide culturally informed, non-legal advice, guidance and referrals
- Coordinate and support Koori Court sittings, Elders and Respected Persons
- Promote awareness of Koori Court and strengthen community engagement
Reporting to the Court Services Manager and supported by the Koori Justice Branch, you will help ensure the Court delivers a culturally respectful and responsive service to community.
This is a meaningful role in a dynamic and sensitive environment, where your ability to maintain confidentiality, show sound judgement, and work collaboratively with Elders, stakeholders, court staff and the judiciary will be highly valued.
About You
As an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, you bring strong cultural knowledge, insight and understanding of the Victorian Koori Community, particularly in the context of the justice system.
- You understand the important role Aboriginal and community service organisations play in supporting community members and their families.
- You communicate with care, respect and cultural awareness, building trust and connection with members of the Victorian Koori community.
- You have the ability to engage with community and contribute to meaningful projects that support stronger outcomes.
- You bring lived experience and cultural expertise that enables you to connect, influence and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in a culturally safe way.
- Some travel to other regional court locations is required and a current drivers license is essential
