Family Contact Worker - Casual

Casual

Key Responsibilities

Family Contact Supervision

Supervise family contact visits in accordance with individual case plans and organisational requirements.
Provide safe transport for children and young people to and from family contact visits.
Support positive interactions between children, young people, and family members.
Observe and monitor contact visits to ensure children's safety, wellbeing, and emotional needs are met.
Identify and respond appropriately to any risk of harm or child protection concerns.
Exercise professional judgement to suspend or cease contact visits where a child's safety or wellbeing may be compromised.
Communicate concerns, observations, and recommendations to the Case Manager in a timely manner.
Attend case conferences, review meetings, and other stakeholder meetings as required.

Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate, objective, and comprehensive reports following each contact visit.
Document observations of family interactions, child wellbeing, and any concerns arising during visits.
Update case management databases and systems as required.
Ensure all records are completed within required timeframes and comply with legislative and organisational standards.

Cultural Safety and Inclusion

Promote culturally safe and inclusive practices for all children, young people, families, and carers.
Respect and support the cultural identity, traditions, and community connections of children and young people.
Support carers to understand and respond to children's cultural needs.
Demonstrate an anti-bias approach and commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Collaboration and Service Delivery

Work collaboratively with Case Managers, carers, families, and external stakeholders.
Contribute to positive outcomes for children and young people through effective communication and teamwork.
Maintain professional relationships with key stakeholders and community organisations.
Participate in continuous improvement and quality assurance initiatives.

Health, Safety and Wellbeing

Comply with all workplace health and safety requirements.
Identify, report, and manage risks in accordance with organisational procedures.
Promote a culture of health, safety, and wellbeing.
Ensure incidents and hazards are reported promptly and accurately.

Essential Criteria

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Experience working with children and young people.
Understanding of Out of Home Care (OOHC), child protection principles, and family preservation practices.
Ability to recognise and respond to child protection concerns and risks of harm.
Experience working with families experiencing complex needs, trauma, and conflict.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Excellent written communication and report-writing skills.
Sound organisational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic case management systems.
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

Desirable Criteria

Previous experience supervising family contact visits.
Knowledge of trauma-informed and child-centred practice frameworks.
Experience working in regional or rural communities.
Understanding of Aboriginal culture, community, and culturally safe practices.
Experience working within community services, child and family services, or OOHC programs.

Qualifications and Requirements

Essential

Current Driver's Licence.
Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
Current NSW Working With Children Check.
National Criminal History Check.
Ability to travel throughout Parkes and surrounding Central West NSW communities.
Experience working within child, youth, family, or community services.

Desirable

Certificate IV, Diploma, or tertiary qualifications in Community Services, Youth Work, Child and Family Services, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or a related discipline.
Relevant OOHC experience.
