Brighter Futures Mentoring is looking for reliable, engaging and down-to-earth Youth Mentors to join our growing team in Murray Bridge and Mount Barker.
We provide one-to-one mentoring and community-based support to children and young people. Our sessions are practical, relationship-focused and often involve getting out into the community rather than sitting in an office.
A typical session might include going to the gym, shooting hoops, hiking, fishing, cooking, grabbing lunch, practising life skills, attending appointments or simply spending time with a young person and providing a consistent positive adult relationship.
About the role
As a Youth Mentor, you will:
- Build positive and professional relationships with children and young people
- Provide one-to-one mentoring in the community
- Support young people to build confidence, independence and life skills
- Participate in recreational and community activities
- Help young people work towards individual goals
- Transport young people during mentoring sessions
- Complete brief session notes and communicate professionally with the wider care team when required
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and provide consistent, reliable support
Who we are looking for
We are less interested in finding someone who can simply tick boxes and more interested in finding people who can genuinely connect with young people.
You may have experience in:
- Youth work
- Disability support
- Community services
- Residential care
- Education
- Sport or recreation
- Coaching
- Mentoring
- Child and family services
Relevant qualifications are valued, but life experience, personality and the ability to build rapport with young people are also extremely important.
We are particularly interested in people who are active, confident in the community, reliable and comfortable working independently.
Requirements
Applicants will need, or be willing to obtain:
- Current Working With Children Check
- Current driver’s licence
- Reliable and suitable vehicle
- First Aid and CPR
- Appropriate vehicle insurance
- Relevant screening and clearances required for the role
Experience working with children, young people, disability or the child protection system will be highly regarded.
