Job Description

Maximum-term contract available to commence in Terms 3 or 4, 2026, with possibility of extension into 2027.
Base salary $94,155 - $133,009 + special education allowance $3,866 p.a. (pro rata for part-time employment) plus superannuation
Located at Aspect Hunter School, Thornton, NSW, in our Distance Education Program
Flexibility to work from home with some onsite requirements; must attend PL onsite at Aspect Hunter School.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) are sought from suitably experienced and/or qualified teachers for a Distance Education (DE) Teacher – Subject Matter Expert role for Semester 2, 2026. This is a max-term opportunity to cover staff on leave, with the potential for extension subject to operational requirements.

This role supports the delivery of high-quality, evidence-informed teaching and learning programs within a distance education environment, with a strong focus on student engagement, wellbeing, and progress.

What you will do:

Aspect is a leader in education for children on the autism spectrum. Working at Aspect means you will be supported by a team of passionate professional educators. You will help create a learning environment that tailors to the individual needs of students through evidence informed best practice in autism. Class sizes are small and you always have the assistance of a dedicated teacher aide. You will work closely in a team that includes the student, family, teacher aide and other professionals such as our school psychologist, speech therapists and occupational therapists to develop and deliver quality learning programs. This wrap-around multi-disciplinary approach to support means that you will gain new skills and work experience that can help you reach your professional goals. The Distance Education program requires experience in working with Google classrooms or other online learning platforms.

About the School: Aspect Hunter School provides placement for approximately 290 students on the autism spectrum from Kindergarten to year 12 at its main school at Thornton, and across its satellite classes within the Catholic and Department of Education schools in Newcastle, Hunter, and Port Macquarie regions. Aspect Hunter School also offers a Distance Education program for students on the autism spectrum in years 3 to 8 from across NSW.

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

NESA registration to teach in NSW
Special Education qualifications are preferred
Secondary School Mathematics teacher qualification
Willingness and capacity to teach outside of subject area
The Distance Education program requires you to have experience working with Google Classrooms, or other online learning platforms
Experience working with students on the autism spectrum or with other intellectual disability (desirable)
NSW Working with Children Check clearance for paid employment
Depending on the school's location/requirements it may be essential to have a current driver's licence
A Light Rigid (LR) driver's licence (desirable)
You may be required to provide an international police clearance.
