About the Department of Neurosurgery
The Department of Neurosurgery occupies a 32 bed ward shared with the Vascular Surgery & ENT Units
The Unit has a particular interest in Epilepsy Surgery, Complex Spinal surgery, Tumour surgery and DBS surgery.
Located at the Austin Hospital, the Unit is committed to the provision of high-quality patient care and maintains an ongoing commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
About the role
Perform the duties of the position efficiently, according to the standards of the Unit including participating in the Austin Health performance appraisal program. Duties will include assessment of elective and emergency neurosurgical patients, participating in operating sessions and conducting ward rounds. Preparation and presentation of cases in clinical meetings including weekly audit, supervision and teaching of resident staff and administrative duties related to routine clinical duties.
The Director of Neurosurgery, within the general scope of the terms of the appointment, may allocate specific duties. Every endeavour will be made to ensure that such duties are allocated on a fair and equitable basis.
A regular day will see you:
Provide comprehensive management of in-patients.
Attendance at multiple weekly outpatient clinics.
Attention to detail and set expectations and ensure exact clinical handover and continuity of care amongst team members.
Participate in operating theatre duties within approved scope of practice.
Participate in Unit meetings and activities.
About you
You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work, and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.
To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:
Exposure to Neurosurgery for a minimum of 6 months as an HMO or Registrar.
Demonstrated commitment to high quality patient care.
