About The Opportunity
Liverpool Hospital is recruiting for a Provisional Fellow to complement and enhance the current Emergency Medicine Department. The Fellow year will allow for the development of a consultant approach, and also the development of an interest in CPD, medical education or research, and a commitment to the training of other staff.
Where You'll Be Working
Liverpool Hospital is a tertiary referral and trauma centre in the South-West of Sydney with an annual census of 90,000 patients. Liverpool is the busiest Emergency department in NSW with an interesting and challenging case mix of adult and paediatric patients and an admission rate of more than 40%. Emergency Physicians provide extended hours cover over 7 days a week with excellent opportunities for supervised training in a challenging and busy department.
Liverpool hospital is fully accredited for advanced training by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM). It has a wide opportunity for educational exposure, with over 70 emergency trainees and 110 JMOs coming to Liverpool Emergency annually. The University of New South Wales and the Western Sydney University have an ongoing relationship with the unit and provides many opportunities to provide education to medical students. It is also a major post-graduate teaching and research facility in SWSLHD with an established Emergency Medicine Research Unit within the department (SWERI) reflecting our strong focus on training and research.
Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.
What you'll be doing
The Emergency Medicine Provisional Fellow will provide clinical services to patients within the Emergency Department at a senior level, including the supervision of junior staff. The Provisional Fellow, through work-based experience and learning opportunities, will develop their capabilities and professional standards to the level of a Specialist in Emergency Medicine.
The Provisional Fellow will contribute to Medical Education/ Simulation training and/ or Research development within the department. Both are ACEM accredited Special Skills Placement (SSP) for 12 months at 0.5 FTE of Non-ED training time. This will run in tandem with a 0.5 FTE appointment of clinical work on the consultant roster.
The Fellow will be involved in various departmental activities including quality improvement and assurance activities, attending senior ED Staff meetings/ Morbidity & Mortality meetings for performance and critical incidents reviews, workplace based accreditation and assessments, supervision of junior medical officers etc.
The Fellow will have access to an education fund to the value of $2500 to spend on courses.
