Full Job Description

Sacred Heart is seeking dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Officers to join our inclusive school community in a casual capacity. These roles offer flexible opportunities to support students on days or during periods when staff are unavailable. The position will commence as soon as possible, with hours varying based on personal availability and school needs. There may also be the opportunity for this role to transition into a more permanent position.

Our Learning Support Officers (LSOs) play a vital role in supporting students’ learning, wellbeing, and sense of belonging. In a casual capacity, LSOs work alongside classroom teachers, Learning Community Leaders, and the Learning Diversity Team to provide support when staffing needs arise — ensuring continuity of care and learning for all students.

Ability to support the diverse learning, wellbeing and personal care needs of students.
Ability to follow student support plans and classroom directions.
Ability to build positive relationships with students.
Strong teamwork, communication and flexibility.
Commitment to child safety, professional conduct and school policies.

The successful applicant will:

Support the Catholic identity and values of Sacred Heart.
Support students with diverse learning and wellbeing needs.
Assist with personal care when required.
Follow Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), and classroom adjustments.
Supervise students during learning, breaks, and school activities.
Work flexibly across classrooms and year levels.
Communicate and work collaboratively with staff.
Demonstrate professionalism and a commitment to child safety and student wellbeing.

Special Requirements

Working with Children Check (Employee) & National Police Check
Current First Aid, Anaphylaxis, Asthma, and Mandatory Reporting training (or willingness to obtain)
Experience supporting students with diverse learning profiles (desirable)
Commitment to the Child Safe Standards, Catholic ethos, and DOBCEL policies

Special Requirements

Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) Registration.
Current Mandatory Reporting training.
Current First Aid, Anaphylaxis and Asthma qualifications (desirable).
Demonstrated commitment to Child Safe Standards and the safeguarding of children.
Willingness to work flexibly across Foundation to Year 6 and specialist programs based on school needs.
Experience teaching in primary school settings and supporting students with diverse learning needs (desirable).

About Us

Sacred Heart Primary School opened in 1906. Classes were conducted by the Sisters of Mercy in the Parish Church. Since 1955, when the current buildings were first opened, additional classrooms and buildings have been added over time. Our current project sees our library being expanded and refurbished and a new hall and stadium being constructed. A significant school feature is our enclosed courtyard around which our classrooms reside. We currently have a student enrolment of around 340 students. Our school offers the riches of a Catholic education and tradition to every child in our care, promoting and living out gospel values. We are committed to providing excellence in education with Christ as our centre-point and inspiration. The children, parents, staff, parish and the wider community work as partners in learning and living, and contributing to the common good of our society.
