Handyman – Full time position is vacant at our Aged Care Facility, Cowra Retirement Village in Cowra NSW, 2794. Minimum 38 hours per week on a permanent basis.
Cowra Retirement Village is a community owned, not for profit organisation committed to providing the highest standard of care to our residents in a comfortable home like setting. You will work as part of the Facilities Maintenance Team and be supported by a professional management team and a committed resident centred board.
Located in the vibrant regional township of Cowra NSW, the organisation has 84 residential beds including a 14-bed secured dementia unit and Independent Living Units. Bilyara is is one of the largest employers in the area with over 166 employees.
The Role
We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and versatile Handyman to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep, minor repairs, and general preservation of our facility. The ideal candidate is a handy individual with a practical mindset who enjoys a hands-on, active working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform repairs required by the facility and the clients of the Independent Living Units
- Conduct regular walk-throughs to identify maintenance issues, safety hazards, or broken equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance on buildings,equipment,and facilities.
- Repair plumbing issues such as leaking taps,blocked drains,and faulty toilets.
- Repair walls,ceilings,doors,windows,locks,flooring.
- Diagnose maintenance problems and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Use and maintain hand tools and power tools safely.
- Ensure work complies with safety standards and building regulations.
- Keep maintenance records and report major repairs that require specialist contractors.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repair solutions.
- Maintain a clean,organised and safe work environement.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with clients or occupants.
- Assemble, move, and arrange furniture for office relocations, meetings, or special events.
- Escort and assist external contractors (e.g., electricians, technicians) when specialised work is required.
- Keep the maintenance workshop organised and monitor inventory levels for basic supplies (e.g.,tools, hardware repairs,stocks of continence aid and PPE).
- Adhere to Work Health and Safety (WHS) guidelines to ensure a safe environment for everyone.
- Report and work under the leadership of the Facility Manager and the Maintenance supervisor.Requirements & Qualifications
- Proven experience in a handyman, building maintenance, or trade-related role (highly regarded but not essential).
- Proficiency with basic hand and power tools.
- Capacity to perform physical labor, lift heavy objects, and stand for extended periods.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a sharp eye for detail.
- Good interpersonal skills to interact professionally with staff,residents,family members and contractors.
- A valid driver’s licence. (Optional: Forklift licence, White Card, Trade)
