Purpose of the Role
BGIS is seeking an Apprentice Electrician to join our Self Perform team within one of the Gold Coast's largest and most complex healthcare environments. Reporting to the site leadership team, you will work collaboratively with both client and BGIS teams while completing your apprenticeship, gaining valuable hands-on experience across electrical maintenance, testing, fault finding, and facility services.
The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, enjoy practical problem-solving, and be excited to build a long-term career in the electrical trade. You'll be supported by experienced technicians, structured training, and a team committed to helping apprentices develop their skills and confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation, servicing, and maintenance of light, power, and control circuits and associated electrical equipment.
- Support inspections and testing of RCDs, exit and emergency lighting, switchboards, auto doors, and appliances.
- Assist with fault finding and repairs under the supervision of qualified technicians.
- Learn to use test equipment and digital service tools to ensure systems operate safely and efficiently.
- Assist with work records, timesheets, and basic quotations or estimates.
- Participate in planned and reactive maintenance activities across the site.
- Develop skills in operating elevated work platforms, ladders, and safe manual handling.
- Build positive working relationships with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
- Collaborate with BGIS teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to achieve operational outcomes.
- Participate in the BGIS Apprentice Training Program and complete all learning and development requirements.
Education, Experience & Skills
Essential:
- Year 10 School Certificate or higher.
- White Card (Construction Induction).
- Genuine interest in developing a career within the electrical trade.
- Basic mechanical or electrical aptitude.
- Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely.
- Positive attitude and commitment to professional development.
- Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.
Desirable:
- Exposure to practical, hands-on work environments (school-based work experience, pre-apprenticeship, or similar).
- Previous work or training in an electrical, construction, or facilities maintenance environment.
- Pre-apprenticeship course or vocational study in Electrotechnology.
- Problem-solving ability, initiative, and adaptability.
- Basic computer literacy.
Workplace Flexibility
To support your growth, this position will be based on-site in Southport within a major healthcare environment. You will gain valuable hands-on experience working alongside experienced tradespeople while completing your apprenticeship and building your practical trade skills.
PPE, Uniform, iPad, Mobile Phone, and In-House Training are provided. The site also offers direct access to public transport.
