Join the VEC as an Elections Project Officer and play a key role in delivering accurate, transparent and trusted election results for the 2026 State Election. Working within the Counting Operations team, you will support the planning and delivery of election counting activities, providing project coordination and operational support in a fast-paced and time-critical environment.

Fixed-term opportunities (3 months)
VPS Grade 3.1 $81,496 - $90,227 plus superannuation
Location: Port Melbourne, Collins Street CBD, Greater Melbourne and Regional Victoria
Free staff shuttle service from Southern Cross Station to Port Melbourne

About this opportunity
These roles offer a unique opportunity to contribute directly to one of Victoria's most significant civic events. As an Elections Project Officer, you will support the Counting Operations team in preparing for and delivering election counting activities, helping ensure election results are accurate, transparent and trusted.

Working in a fast-paced and time-critical environment, you will assist with the planning and implementation of projects that underpin election counting activities.

During periods of peak operational activity as we draw closer to the election, employees may be required to work full time from our Port Melbourne office, in shifts, or on weekends.

A day in the life of an Elections Project Officer
As an Elections Project Officer, you will support the delivery of counting projects and election event activities by:

Assisting with the planning and implementation of counting projects for electoral events.
Providing administrative and project support throughout the planning and delivery phases of counting operations.
Coordinating and maintaining project documentation, procedures, checklists, templates and records.
Supporting counting activities at centralised venues during major electoral events.
Monitoring tasks and project milestones to ensure deadlines and legislative timeframes are met.
Identifying, documenting and escalating procedural issues, risks and operational concerns when required.
Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and post-election evaluation activities.
Working closely with colleagues, stakeholders and service providers to ensure election activities are delivered effectively and accurately.

You will have demonstrated experience in

Providing project coordination and administrative support in a fast-paced operational environment.
Maintaining accurate records, documentation, procedures and project information with a high level of attention to detail.
Using Microsoft Word and Excel effectively to support project delivery and reporting.
Analysing information, solving problems and identifying practical solutions to routine issues.
Organising competing priorities and meeting deadlines while working under pressure and with minimal supervision.
Building positive working relationships and communicating effectively with internal stakeholders and external service providers.
Demonstrating flexibility, adaptability and a willingness to take on different responsibilities as operational needs change.
Contributing to a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace and working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
Experience in election counting or election operations will be highly regarded but is not essential.
