JOB PURPOSE
The Business Development Manager – Queensland will lead AESG’s business growth and market entry strategy across Brisbane, Gold Coast and the wider Queensland region. Acting as AESG’s commercial ambassador on the ground, this role is responsible for driving brand awareness, overcoming perceptions of resource constraints, and converting pipeline opportunities into practical project wins.
The individual will focus on early, targeted BD activity with developers and existing clients operating across multiple geographies. They will position AESG as a premium partner, differentiating on expertise, speed, quality, client care, and technology (including AI), rather than competing on price.
QUALIFICATION / EXPERIENCE
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, Sustainability, or a related built-environment field.
Experience: >10–15 years of proven experience in business development or client-facing roles within the engineering, construction, sustainability, or built-environment consulting industries in Queensland.
Network: An established, active network of developers, architects, tier-1 contractors, and asset managers specifically within the Queensland/Brisbane market.
Strong existing relationships within the Queensland built environment sector, with an extra credit to cross-sell across multiple geographies (Australia/NZ).
Excellent communication, negotiation, and high-impact presentation skills.
Strategic thinker with a sharp commercial mindset, capable of turning ideas into rapid, disciplined action.
Based permanently in Queensland, with flexibility to collaborate closely with interstate teams visiting the market regularly.
Market Entry & Growth: Execute and progress the Brisbane market entry strategy, establishing a permanent, high-profile presence for AESG in Queensland.
Targeted BD Activity: Drive earlier and more targeted business development activity, prioritizing opportunities with existing clients and developers operating in Queensland.
Capacity Promotion: Actively promote AESG’s growing capability, scale, and capacity in the Australian market to overcome any market perception that the firm is resource-constrained.
Service Line Diversification: Build pipeline momentum for AESG’s diversified service offerings, with a strong focus on façade remediation, existing buildings, sustainability, and other specialist offerings such as recommissioning, fire engineering, security, and portfolio advisory services.
Value-Based Selling: Position AESG’s services based on expertise, speed, quality, client care, and innovation (including AI and tech platforms) rather than competing on price.
Client Feedback Loop: Engage key clients to understand which complementary services they value most, feeding intelligence back to the leadership team to help expand AESG's offering.
Cross-Selling & Collaboration: Implement cross-discipline client strategies to maximize collaboration, improve client penetration, and uncover cross-selling opportunities.
Targets & Reporting: Achieve defined annual revenue and project award targets for the Queensland region. Provide structured weekly progress updates on active pursuits and pipeline status using the company CRM and action trackers.
Leadership / Management skills - Leads AESG’s commercial footprint in Queensland with strategic autonomy. Demonstrates exceptional planning and prioritization skills, managing multiple client initiatives concurrently while fostering seamless collaboration with technical and divisional directors across states to ensure unified project delivery.
Communication / Collaboration - Delivers clear, concise, and highly persuasive presentations to clients. Ensures complete transparency and alignment between the local QLD market requirements and interstate technical delivery hubs. Actively collaborates with marketing and proposal teams to ensure consistency of premium brand messaging.
Technical Knowledge / Expertise - Possesses a strong commercial understanding of the Australian engineering, construction, and sustainability sectors. Leverages technical knowledge of AESG’s core (façade and sustainability) and diversified service offerings—particularly façade remediation, existing buildings, and fire/security engineering—to articulate strong value propositions.
Creativity / Innovation - Promotes creative thinking in client engagement and proposal positioning. Embraces and utilizes AI and technology to strengthen AESG's product offering, identifying innovative ways to differentiate AESG’s pitch from traditional competitors.
Client Focus / Relationship Building - Maintains and expands long-term client relationships to ensure sustained trust and repeat business. Proactively gathers feedback throughout the proposal lifecycle to continuously improve win rates and ensure high levels of client satisfaction.
Strategic Vision / Planning - Contributes to AESG’s overall Australian strategy by providing sharp, data-driven local market intelligence. Monitors and evaluates Queensland market trends and competitor activity to inform executive decision-making and resource allocation.
