What you'll be doing
The Clinical Nurse Specialist Aged Care, using best practice evidence provides person-centered specialist nursing care at an advanced practice level for residents in the aged care setting in collaboration with individual/s and the multidisciplinary health care team. Provides clinical leadership, support and supervision for less experienced clinicians to achieve people focused quality care.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist – Aged Care will serve as the onsite Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) lead for the residential aged care unit, supporting compliance with the Aged Care Quality Standards and relevant legislative requirements. The role provides leadership in the implementation and ongoing management of an effective IPC program and providing IPC education and training to staff.

Selection Criteria

Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse and relevant post-registration qualifications in Aged Care with a minimum of three years' experience in the care of older people in the inpatient or residential aged care setting.

Relevant qualifications in Infection prevention and control or willingness to obtain and a demonstrated understanding of antimicrobial resistance and stewardship.

Demonstrated ability to undertake comprehensive assessments and develop a plan of care, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, which is focused on the expressed needs/wishes of the older person.

Demonstrate ability to exercise extended autonomy in clinical decision-making capabilities and leadership in the development of nursing specialty practice advancement.

Proven skills in case management and liaison and the ability to lead a case conference in order to facilitate a timely and appropriate care within the residential aged care setting.

Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology, written and verbal means and sound interpersonal skills with the capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner.

Demonstrated knowledge and application of evidence-based practice and critical thinking to advocate for and implement individualised person-centred care at an extended role level with a commitment to quality improvement.

Evidence of participation in own professional development, a commitment to maintaining competence and enhancement of skills with a willingness to apply and share professional expertise as a resource person and mentor others within the specialty.
