WHAT ARE WE OFFERING?
Take the Next Step in Your Nursing Career! The Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network (BHFLHN) is currently seeking dedicated nurses for the following roles, within the Gawler Health Service's Duldig Ward (Ward 1).
- Associate Nurse Unit Manager – Medical
- Clinical Nurse/Registered Nurse
- Enrolled Nurse
Gawler Health Service's Duldig Ward (Ward 1) is the hospital's medical ward, located at the Gawler Health Service in Gawler East. SA Health's current site map identifies Ward 1 as “Duldig”, while SA Health recruitment information refers to it as Duldig Ward – Medical Ward.
What does Duldig Ward do?
Duldig Ward provides inpatient medical care for people requiring admission to hospital. The ward operates as part of the broader Gawler Health Service and provides care to patients from Gawler and surrounding communities, including the Lower North and Barossa Valley.
The nursing workforce includes Registered Nurses, Clinical Nurses and Enrolled Nurses, working across a 7-day roster to provide person-centred care. Recent SA Health recruitment material specifically describes Duldig as a medical ward and highlights assessment, care planning, care coordination, multidisciplinary teamwork and support for developing staff.
What is it like to work there?
Duldig offers the type of experience that can be particularly attractive to clinicians who enjoy regional, multidisciplinary practice. Staff work with patients with a range of medical needs and have opportunities to work relatively broadly across the patient journey rather than within a highly specialised metropolitan environment.
The name “Duldig”
The ward is named in recognition of George (Gerhard George) Duldig, a long-standing member and Chairman of the Hutchinson Hospital Board in Gawler. Historical records show that he was elected to the Hutchinson Hospital Board in 1955, became a trustee in 1961 and was appointed Chairman in 1963. He remained involved with the hospital until his death in 1986.

HOW WILL YOU CONTRIBUTE?
You will……….
- Deliver high-quality, person-centred nursing/midwifery care, including assessment, care planning, and coordination of admissions and discharges
- Provide day-to-day clinical leadership, overseeing care delivery within the team and supporting safe, effective patient flow
- Support the Nurse/Midwife Unit Manager in clinical, operational, and change management activities
- Contribute to education and mentoring by supporting students, new staff, and ongoing professional development within the team
- Participate in quality improvement, clinical audits, and research activities to enhance patient outcomes and service delivery
