Primary objective
In consultation with internal stakeholders, liaise with external prisoner education service providers for the delivery of education
and training to prisoners, including scheduling, coordination, managing waitlists and enrolments. Maintain attendance records and
completion data in the Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS). Organise prisoner graduations in consultation with
external prisoner education service providers.
Context statement
The position is based at an Alice Springs correctional centre. It is responsible for the delivery of prisoner education by coordinating
with internal and external stakeholders for optimum outcomes.
Key responsibilities
1. Engage, consult and liaise with internal and external stakeholders coordinating the delivery of education and training to
prisoners, including coordination of prisoner study group sessions and higher education offline learning.
2. Actively motivate prisoners to participate in their reintegration process to achieve Throughcare goals, maintaining a focus on
the reduction of recidivism.
3. Use pre-training assessment tools to identify suitable courses for individual prisoners.
4. Gather information and contribute to the completion of Offender Management Plans, in relation to participation in
recommended education and training courses.
5. Maintain accurate, legible and proficient case notes, attendance records and statistics in a timely manner.
6. Respond to individual prisoner requests and facilitate referrals to service providers where required.
7. Be an active member of a multi-disciplinary team and participate in ongoing development and supervision.
8. Carry out research and duties as requested by the Director Prisoner Education.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and possess
sound interpersonal and communication skills including problem solving and conflict resolution.
2. Experience working with diverse cultures, and individuals with complex social needs, particularly Aboriginal people from the
Northern Territory.
3. High level organisational and time management skills with an ability to deliver within tight timeframes with attention to detail
and accuracy.
4. Ability to use pre-training assessment tools effectively to identify prisoners for suitable courses and training.
5. Demonstrated capacity to work with limited supervision and to confidently use sound judgement in decision making.
6. Ability to prepare and maintain electronic records with high level attention to detail.
Desirable
1. Knowledge and understanding of governmental and departmental processes with a sound knowledge of Department of
Corrections.
2. Formal qualifications in Business, Administration or an associated field.
