ISLHD is an accredited provider of the Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) Program, which provides an alternative pathway for IMGs to AMC Part 2 Clinical Exam. All candidates to the ISLHD WBA Program are current employees with a contract that incorporates the duration of the program. Selection to the WBA Program is separate to the workplace recruitment process, is highly competitive and not guaranteed. Applicants are accessed via a merit-based process. Candidates require a rotational RMO or Emergency Department position to apply.
Where you'll be working
Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

Bulli Hospital and Aged Care Centre
Bulli Hospital opened in August 2020. It has been designed and specifically tailored to meet the needs of the District’s growing population. Shoalhaven Hospital is a busy rural hospital which employs over 1,000 staff and is the main acute care hospital for the Shoalhaven region, providing emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services. Shoalhaven Hospital has an Intensive Care Unit focusing on high dependency and coronary patients, Children’s Ward and Maternity Unit as well as a purpose-built regional Cancer Care Centre and sub-acute Mental Health Unit. Shellharbour Hospital
Shellharbour Hospital is a 197 bed, acute facility providing a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services. The inpatient services include aged care, medical, surgical, mental health and acute medical assessment inpatient beds, plus a day surgery unit. The hospital also provides emergency services, elective surgical services, general medical, antenatal and primary family health care, satellite renal dialysis, as well as adolescent and adult mental health services. Coledale Hospital specialises in aged care services for the northern Illawarra. It has a purpose-built unit for patients with a dementia illness awaiting nursing home placement.

What you'll be doing
The Senior Resident Medical Officer is an integral part of the multidisciplinary health care team. The SRMO will provide effective medical services to patients under the supervision of Trainee /CMO /Specialist staff, while gaining experience in a complex clinical environment. The SRMO will have the opportunity to work at various hospitals across the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District including Bulli, Coledale, Port Kembla, Shellharbour, Shoalhaven and Wollongong as well as possible GP rotations in Milton. The SRMO will have a more senior doctor on site at all times and will undertake patient care consistent with the level of clinical competency and experience of the appointed trainee whilst developing broad skills in clinical decision making and practice.
