Part-time ( 0.8 FTE), fixed-term contract until 31 December 2027
Lead the way in breast cancer prevention alongside a team of expert researchers at the Daffodil Centre
Base Salary $132,533 (pro-rata) + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Daffodil Centre is a world-leading research centre on cancer control and policy, contributing to policy decisions and real-world improvements in cancer control. The Daffodil Centre combines the complementary strengths of the University of Sydney and the Cancer Council NSW. This partnership has created an unparalleled centre of national and international research excellence where research results in real-world improvements in cancer control.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced researcher to join the Breast Cancer Clinical & Population Health stream as a Research Fellow, to contribute to cancer epidemiology and health services research with a focus on prevention and early detection. You will have the opportunity to support and co-lead existing public health research in breast cancer and have the chance to develop independent research areas in breast cancer screening and prevention.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

Support, co-lead and potentially lead research work in breast cancer prevention and early detection, including trials and cohort studies in collaboration with the BreastScreen Program
design and contribute to public health and epidemiological studies, potentially including analyses of existing linked population-based datasets, such as the Enduring Cancer Data Linkage (CanDLe) data assets
actively contribute to all aspects of research through clinical trial activities, real-world implementation studies, and evidence synthesis
provide direction and mentorship to post-graduate students and other researchers in the team, and
seek out research synergies and network within and outside the Daffodil Centre research groups

About you

hold a PhD or equivalent post-graduate qualification (desirable to be in public health or epidemiology or related fields)
strong understanding of relevant research methods such as epidemiology, evidence-based cancer care or screening research with experience in applying these methods, including evidence synthesis
track-record in peer-reviewed publications
experience in clinical trials, health services or cancer epidemiology research with ability to work autonomously or in a team when needed
prevention research experience in relevant fields with skills in managing data sets, grant submissions, ethics applications, and coordination of project-specific tasks
experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities.
