This is an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander identified position which is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

Your Impact:
As a valued member of the Women’s Bail Advocacy Program, you’ll provide essential paralegal and program support that helps Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women access timely, coordinated and culturally responsive advocacy. Your work will contribute to positive outcomes for clients navigating the criminal justice system. Each day, you will:

Provide paralegal and administrative support to solicitors, advocates and support staff delivering bail advocacy services.
Coordinate client files, legal documents, referrals, database records and program administration to ensure accurate and timely service delivery.
Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to navigate bail processes, court attendance and legal appointments.
Liaise with clients, families, courts, service providers and community organisations to facilitate coordinated support.
Maintain accurate records, prepare legal documentation and assist with reporting and compliance requirements.
Collaborate across ALS teams and external stakeholders to promote culturally safe, trauma-informed and client-focused services.

Be a proud Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, recognised by your community.
Currently studying Law, Human Services or a related field, hold paralegal qualifications, or bring relevant lived experience within the socio-legal sector.
Demonstrated commitment to social justice, with a strong understanding of and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, communities and cultural practices.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients, colleagues and external stakeholders.
Highly organised with excellent time management, problem-solving and administrative skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and confident learning new systems and technologies, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
Hold a current NSW Driver Licence, Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain), and be able to maintain a clear National Police Check.
