About Us

Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the `Courts Group'.

Our people enable the Courts Group to deliver on each jurisdiction's own strategic priorities while also pursuing strategic opportunities that are interconnected and deliver benefits more broadly.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The MCV determines in excess of 200,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, dealing with over 90 percent of all adult cases that come before Victorian courts each year.

MCV aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

About the Role

The Assessment and Referral Court (ARC) List is a specialist court list supporting accused persons experiencing mental illness and/or cognitive impairment. Join a specialist court environment where your work will make a meaningful difference in the lives of some of Victoria's most vulnerable community members. This is a unique opportunity to combine your strong technical registry expertise with a people-focused approach.

As the ARC List Co-ordinator, Registrar, you will play a pivotal role in the operation of the Assessment and Referral Court (ARC) List at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court. Working closely with the Manager of Listings and Lead ARC List Magistrate, you will coordinate complex registry functions, manage case flow, and ensure matters progress efficiently while meeting all legislative and procedural requirements. You will regularly engage with accused persons experiencing serious mental illness or cognitive impairment, providing professional and respectful support within a therapeutic and problem-solving court setting.

This is an exciting opportunity to step into a coordinator role, build your leadership and stakeholder management skills, and work closely with the Judiciary, Victoria Police, case managers and other partners to support vulnerable accused through the justice system while advancing your career within the Court.

About You

Success in this role requires excellent organisational skills, sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with judicial officers, legal practitioners, court staff, health service providers, and other key stakeholders. You will thrive in a dynamic and rewarding environment where collaboration, empathy, and accountability are essential. You will bring:

Strong technical registry expertise, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work closely with the Judiciary and key stakeholders to support vulnerable accused persons through the court process.
Confidence with managing the efficient operation of the ARC List while building positive working relationships.
This role also offers opportunities to support other court registries and mentor trainees as they progress towards qualification and deputisation.
