About the role
Latrobe Regional Health is seeking an experienced and motivated Nurse Practitioner Candidate (Alcohol and Other Drugs) on a Full-time on-going basis to join the Psychiatric Emergency Care Team (PECT). This advanced practice nursing role provides a unique opportunity to develop the clinical expertise, leadership capability, and specialist knowledge required to achieve Nurse Practitioner endorsement. Working within a multidisciplinary mental health and emergency care environment, you will lead specialist AOD assessments, enhance care pathways, support workforce capability, and contribute to service innovation that improves outcomes for individuals experiencing alcohol and other drug-related presentations.

The role of the Nurse Practitioner Candidate (AOD) is to:
- Deliver specialist Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) assessment, screening, brief interventions, and care coordination for consumers presenting with substance use and dual-diagnosis complexities.
- Support the development and implementation of evidence-based AOD strategies, clinical pathways, and integrated referral networks across healthcare and community services.
- Provide advanced clinical leadership, consultation, and expert advice to multidisciplinary teams, promoting best-practice approaches to AOD care and patient flow.
- Design and deliver education, mentoring, and workforce development initiatives to enhance staff capability in AOD screening, assessment, treatment, and referral processes.
- Participate in the Nurse Practitioner Candidate Program, including clinical supervision, advanced study, portfolio development, research activities, and progression toward Nurse Practitioner endorsement.
- Lead and contribute to quality improvement projects, service evaluation, data reporting, governance activities, and research initiatives that strengthen AOD service delivery and patient outcomes.
About you
Ideal candidates for this role will have:
- Registered Nurse with AHPRA registration and postgraduate qualifications in Mental Health Nursing and/or Alcohol and Other Drugs, with a commitment to completing a Master of Nurse Practitioner qualification.
- Extensive clinical experience in mental health, alcohol and other drugs, emergency care, or dual-diagnosis settings, with demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and decision-making skills.
- Strong understanding of evidence-based AOD interventions, recovery-oriented practice, integrated care models, and multidisciplinary service delivery.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships across health, community, and government sectors.
- Passionate about education and workforce development, with the ability to mentor, support, and influence colleagues in advancing AOD clinical practice.
- Committed to innovation, research, continuous improvement, and improving outcomes for people experiencing alcohol and other drug-related health challenges.

Salary and Classification
Salary: RPN Grade 4 Year 3, plus superannuation and Salary packaging.
