The Urology term at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) offers junior doctors an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the assessment, investigation and management of patients with a broad range of urological conditions.
Working alongside experienced Urologists, Registrars and multidisciplinary teams, trainees are actively involved in all aspects of patient care, including acute admissions, perioperative management, inpatient and outpatient care, and emergency urological presentations. The role provides exposure to a diverse case mix encompassing urological oncology, stone disease, benign prostatic conditions, urinary tract disorders, reconstructive urology and complex tertiary referral cases.
As a major tertiary referral hospital, RNSH offers exposure to both routine and highly specialised urological surgery, providing valuable experience in the management of complex patients and the coordination of multidisciplinary care. Trainees develop skills in clinical assessment, surgical patient management, procedural care and decision-making while working within a supportive and educational environment.

What you'll be doing
The Unaccredited Trainee is the Junior within the Urology Surgical Department. The position is a Position 1.0 FTE – 38 hours per week including other sessions which are flexible and may be agreed upon by the Urology Head of Department and Training Supervisor. There may also be an educational opportunity for further clinical work to support the SET Trainees in assessment of emergency patients, seeing consults and assisting in the operating theatres as well as the routine functioning of the unit. You will be required to supervise the Urology Intern/Resident and at times function in this role in the advent of their absence. On call commitments will be 1:3.

- Experience and qualifications commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- Evidence of continued professional development specific to urology surgery and commitment to self- education and teaching.
- Evidence of Urology Surgery specific research projects completed or being undertaken.
- Completion (or registered for) the Generic Surgical Sciences Examination (GSSE) and completed (or registered for) CLEAR, ASSET, EMST and CCrISP. Has knowledge (or has completed a course) in GCP & ICH.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- High level communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Skills in time management, prioritisation and problem solving.
Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases
To be employed by NSW Health, applicants must provide evidence of vaccination and comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy Directive (PD2024_015). Compliance with this policy, including any amendments made from time to time, is a mandatory condition of employment.
Applicants will be required to provide acceptable evidence of their vaccination status, immunity, and any other occupational health requirements relevant to the position. Evidence must be submitted and assessed in accordance with NSW Health requirements prior to commencement.
Working with Children Check
This position requires a Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance issued by Service NSW. A current and valid WWCC is a mandatory requirement for appointment to this role.
