About the Role
Are you an experienced Mental Health Social Worker who thrives in fast-paced environments and is passionate about making critical decisions when people need support most? We have an exciting opportunity for a Grade 4 Senior Clinician to join the Emergency Psychiatric Services (EPS) team at Casey Hospital on a full-time, ongoing basis.
As a senior member of our multidisciplinary team, you'll provide specialist mental health assessment, crisis intervention and clinical leadership for people of all ages presenting in acute mental health crisis. Working across a 24/7 rotating roster, you'll partner closely with the Emergency Department, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria and community mental health services to deliver timely, person-centred care and support safe alternatives to hospital admission wherever possible.
This role combines advanced clinical practice with leadership, offering the opportunity to mentor clinicians, contribute to service innovation and help shape emergency mental health care across one of Victoria's fastest-growing regions. In this role you will:
Deliver rapid psychosocial, mental health and risk assessments for consumers experiencing acute mental health crises.
Provide crisis intervention, safety planning and brief therapeutic support in a high-pressure emergency setting.
Coordinate care with Emergency Department clinicians, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria and community mental health services.
Facilitate timely referrals to inpatient units, community teams and other specialist services to support safe, least restrictive care.
Provide senior Social Work leadership, clinical consultation and mentoring to students and early career clinicians.
Contribute to service development, quality improvement and emergency mental health initiatives that improve consumer outcomes.
About Emergency Psychiatric Services
Emergency Psychiatric Services (EPS) is the front door to Monash Health's Mental Health Program at Casey Hospital, providing specialist assessment, intervention and crisis care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Our experienced multidisciplinary team supports consumers across the lifespan who present with acute mental health concerns, working collaboratively to assess risk, stabilise crises and connect people with the most appropriate care. The service also incorporates PACER (Mental Health Assistance and Police Response Service), partnering with Victoria Police to provide timely mental health assessment and reduce unnecessary emergency department presentations where appropriate.
Working in EPS means no two days are the same. You'll join a highly skilled and supportive team committed to delivering compassionate, recovery-oriented care while continually improving emergency mental health services for our growing community.
About You
You're an experienced Mental Health Social Worker who remains calm under pressure and brings sound clinical judgement to complex and often unpredictable situations. You enjoy working collaboratively, thrive in fast-paced environments and are committed to delivering compassionate, recovery-oriented care when it matters most. You will also have:
Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
Extensive post-graduate experience working within acute or community mental health services.
Advanced skills in psychosocial assessment, risk assessment, crisis intervention and safety planning.
Demonstrated experience providing clinical supervision, mentoring and support to clinicians or students.
Strong knowledge of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 and recovery-oriented practice.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary and interagency settings.
A commitment to evidence-based practice, quality improvement and person-centred care.
