About the Role
Macarthur Lung & Sleep is seeking a motivated Sleep Technician / Sleep Scientist to join our respiratory and sleep medicine team.
This is primarily a daytime role, with a strong focus on CPAP therapy, patient education, home diagnostic sleep studies and sleep laboratory support.
The successful applicant will work collaboratively with our sleep physicians, senior sleep scientists, sleep technicians and Sleep Laboratory Manager.
Previous sleep medicine experience is desirable; however, applicants with an appropriate health or science background and a genuine interest in sleep medicine are encouraged to apply. On-site training, supervision and ongoing support will be provided according to the applicant's experience and competency.
Key Responsibilities
- CPAP setup and patient education.
- CPAP troubleshooting and therapy support.
- CPAP mask fitting and management of mask leak, comfort and adherence issues.
- Setting up and reviewing Auto-CPAP trials.
- Assisting with Bi-level PAP trials.
- Downloading and reviewing CPAP/PAP therapy data.
- Conducting booked telephone follow-up consultations for CPAP patients.
- Completing ENABLE NSW CPAP applications where appropriate.
- Performing nocturnal oximetry on CPAP/BiPAP therapy.
- Assisting with positional sleep therapy .
- Maintaining records of CPAP and Bi-level PAP trial machines and equipment.
- Setting up NOX home diagnostic sleep study devices and educating patients regarding their use.
- Downloading, checking and uploading completed home diagnostic sleep studies.
- Preparing and checking equipment for overnight sleep laboratory studies.
- Routine calibration, equipment checks and troubleshooting.
- Supporting laboratory quality control, infection control and safety standards.
- Maintaining accurate clinical and equipment documentation.
- Cleaning, preparing and organising sleep study and PAP equipment.
- Assisting with general sleep laboratory organisation and equipment housekeeping.
- Liaising with equipment manufacturers and technical support teams when required.
- Opportunity to develop skills in polysomnography and sleep study scoring with appropriate training and supervision.

Our Sleep Service
Macarthur Lung & Sleep operates a five-bed sleep laboratory and comprehensive ambulatory sleep service providing a range of diagnostic and therapeutic sleep services, including:
- In-laboratory diagnostic polysomnography
- Home diagnostic sleep studies
- CPAP titration
- Bi-level PAP titration
- CPAP and Bi-level PAP trials
- MSLT and MWT Day studies
- Nocturnal oximetry
- Positional sleep therapy
Training & Development
Training and supervision will be provided by our sleep physicians, senior sleep scientists, experienced sleep technicians and Sleep Laboratory Manager.
The position provides opportunities to develop skills in:
- CPAP/APAP and Bi-level PAP therapy
- Mask fitting and patient education
- PAP troubleshooting and data interpretation
- Home diagnostic sleep studies
- NOX sleep systems
- ResMed, Philips and Fisher & Paykel PAP equipment
- Nocturnal oximetry
- Positional sleep therapy
- Sleep laboratory quality assurance

- Sleep study scoring
The role also provides opportunities to work with clinical and technical support teams from major sleep equipment manufacturers.
Optional Overnight Sleep Laboratory Work
This is primarily a daytime position.
Applicants who are interested may also have opportunities to undertake overnight sleep technician shifts, depending on experience, competency and availability.
Overnight studies may include:
- Diagnostic polysomnography
- CPAP titration
- Bi-level PAP titration
- Overnight patient monitoring and troubleshooting
Overnight work is optional and is not a primary requirement of the daytime position.

- Is reliable, professional and committed to high-quality patient care.
Relevant backgrounds may include sleep science, medical science, physiology, respiratory science, nursing or another related healthcare discipline.
Previous CPAP, sleep laboratory or polysomnography experience would be advantageous but is not essential for a suitable applicant willing to learn.
