Team Leader – AOD Assessment Services

SCHADS Level 6 Full time – fixed-term until August 2027

Location: Perth, WA

Why this role matters

The Salvation Army’s Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) services support people experiencing significant challenges with substance use, mental health, trauma and social disadvantage. Assessment Services is often the first point of contact for participants seeking support, and the quality of this first experience can shape their entire recovery journey.

This role ensures that every person who walks through our doors is met with professionalism, compassion and a clear pathway forward. You will lead a team responsible for clinical assessments, withdrawal program planning, intake processes and participant documentation, ensuring each person receives safe, timely and trauma‑informed support. Your leadership helps create a service environment where people feel heard, respected and empowered to take their next steps toward recovery.

About the role

We are seeking a confident, values‑driven Team Leader to oversee our AOD Assessment Services team in Perth. You will provide day‑to‑day leadership, clinical oversight and operational coordination across assessment, intake, withdrawal program planning and participant documentation. You will also support the development of practitioners, students and emerging leaders within the service.

Reporting to the State Manager AOD, this is a full‑time, fixed‑term position until August 2027. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS, Level 6.

How you will make an impact

Provide leadership, supervision and development to Assessment Practitioners, Intake Workers and students

Oversee clinical assessments, ensuring high‑quality, trauma‑informed and evidence‑based practice

Monitor assessment and intake systems, program content and delivery

Participate in the delivery of scheduled program components

Coordinate case reviews and contribute to clinical decision‑making

Lead the implementation and administration of the Withdrawal Program and emerging national initiatives

Ensure all participant documentation is accurate and up to date, including assessments, SAMIS entries, exit summaries and referrals

Participate in the on‑call roster and manage operational matters as required

Escalate critical incidents and matters of concern appropriately

Build a culture of cooperation, learning, accountability and professional growth

Recruit, induct and set clear expectations for new team members

Provide coaching, performance planning, supervision and development opportunities

Coordinate onboarding, supervision and reporting requirements for student placements

What you will bring

Degree qualifications in AOD, social work, welfare, community development or a related discipline (preferred)

At least five years’ experience in AOD and mental health, including leadership experience

Experience engaging with community, sector and government bodies

Strong understanding of trauma, harm minimisation and AOD intervention models

Skilled in client assessment, case management and working with challenging behaviours

Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

High‑level communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills

Commitment to culturally safe, inclusive and person‑centred practice

Current WA driver’s licence and First Aid Certificate
