ASSISTANT VENUE MANAGER
X-Golf Clyde North
Location: X-Golf Clyde North
Employment Type: Full Time
Reports to: Owner
ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for an energetic, switched-on Assistant Venue Manager to join the team at X-Golf Clyde North.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who loves people, enjoys a busy environment and gets satisfaction from seeing a venue running well.
As Assistant Venue Manager, you’ll be the second-in-charge of the venue and play a big part in both the day-to-day operation and continued growth of the business.
One minute you might be welcoming a group for their first X-Golf experience, the next you could be running a corporate function, helping the team through a busy Friday night, solving a simulator issue or chatting to a regular about joining X-League.
We want someone who can take ownership, make good decisions and get things done without needing constant direction.
We have targets to hit and a business to grow, so you’ll work alongside the Owner to grow memberships, functions, X-League, lessons, competitions and repeat visitation.
You don’t need to be a golf expert — but you do need to care about customers, your team and the success of the venue.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
A great Assistant Venue Manager helps create a venue where:
- Customers are welcomed, looked after and want to come back.
- Staff know what they’re doing and have someone they can rely on.
- The venue is clean, organised and ready for trade.
- Functions and events run smoothly from enquiry through to delivery.
- Customer enquiries and issues are followed up rather than forgotten.
- Memberships, X-League, functions, lessons and other key products are actively promoted.
- Problems are identified and dealt with before they become bigger problems.
- Targets are understood and the team works together to achieve them.
- The Venue Manager can confidently leave the venue knowing it is in capable hands.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY VENUE OPERATIONS
You’ll help take ownership of the day-to-day running of X-Golf Clyde North.
This includes:
- Opening and closing the venue.
- Running shifts and making sure the right people are in the right places.
- Managing bookings, simulator allocations, walk-ins and customer flow.
- Overseeing bar, kitchen, golf and darts operations.
- Monitoring stock levels and ordering as required.
- Receiving and checking deliveries where required.
- Following cash handling, POS and venue procedures.
- Making sure the venue is ready for upcoming bookings, functions and events.
- Completing clear handovers and communicating anything requiring follow-up.
- Identifying operational problems and taking action rather than waiting for someone else to notice them.
CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
People come to X-Golf for more than golf — they come to have a good time.
You’ll help make sure every customer feels welcome from the moment they walk through the door.
This includes:
- Greeting customers and getting groups settled quickly.
- Helping customers understand how to use the simulators and games.
- Checking in with groups throughout their booking.
- Getting to know our members and regular customers.
- Making first-time visitors feel comfortable, even if they’ve never picked up a golf club.
- Handling customer concerns calmly and finding practical solutions.
- Recognising opportunities to turn a good experience into another visit.
- Helping create the fun, relaxed atmosphere X-Golf is known for.
TEAM LEADERSHIP
You’ll be one of the people our team looks to for direction.
We want someone who is friendly and approachable but also comfortable setting expectations and holding people accountable.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Allocating tasks and following up to make sure they’re completed.
- Helping train and onboard new team members.
- Recognising great performance and giving constructive feedback when something needs to improve.
- Supporting a positive, respectful and accountable team culture.
- Leading by example — if something needs doing, we all get involved.
FUNCTIONS & EVENTS
Functions are a huge part of what we do, from birthdays and bucks parties to sporting clubs, Christmas parties and corporate events.
You’ll help with the entire customer journey, including:
- Responding to function enquiries within 24 hours
- Understanding our packages and confidently explaining the best options.
- Following up enquiries and helping convert them into bookings.
- Preparing for upcoming functions.
- Making sure food, drinks, activities and simulator requirements are organised.
- Briefing staff before functions.
- Hosting and overseeing events.
- Managing bar tabs and event requirements.
- Helping identify opportunities for repeat functions and referrals.
- Working with the Venue Manager to develop new event ideas and offers.
SALES & BUSINESS GROWTH
We want our customers to know about everything X-Golf has to offer — without every conversation feeling like a sales pitch.
You’ll help grow:
- X-Golf Memberships
- X-League & Competitions
- Functions & Events
- PGA Lessons
- Casual Play
- Junior Clinics & Parties
- Repeat Visitation
This means getting to know our products, understanding what customers are looking for and naturally recommending something that suits them.
If someone is playing every week, talk to them about membership.
If a group loves coming in together, tell them about X-League.
If someone wants to improve their swing, introduce them to our coaching options.
If a business is looking for somewhere different for its Christmas party, show them what we can do.
You'll work with the owner toward weekly and monthly targets, and we expect you to take an active role in achieving them.
Targets aren't there to make the venue feel corporate — they're there because when the business grows, we can continue investing in our venue, our customers and our team.
LOCAL AREA & COMMUNITY
X-Golf Clyde North is a local business and we want to be part of the community around us.
You may help with:
- Building relationships with local businesses.
- Sporting club partnerships.
- Community events and fundraisers.
- Local networking opportunities.
- Promoting upcoming X-Golf events.
- Identifying businesses and groups that could benefit from functions or partnerships.
- Supporting social media content and local promotions when required.
We're looking for someone who is comfortable talking to people and isn't afraid to create an opportunity rather than waiting for one to arrive.
VENUE PRESENTATION & STANDARDS
Everyone on the team is responsible for how the venue looks.
You'll help ensure:
- The venue is clean and professionally presented.
- Simulators and bays are reset between bookings.
- Tables, bar areas, bathrooms and customer areas are maintained throughout the shift.
- Cleaning checklists are completed.
- Equipment is stored correctly.
- Maintenance issues are reported and followed up.
- Staff take pride in the venue rather than walking past things that need attention.
Being a manager doesn't mean cleaning is someone else's job. We all jump in when something needs doing.
SIMULATORS & VENUE TROUBLESHOOTING
You don't need to be an IT technician, but you do need to be willing to learn.
You'll be trained to:
- Troubleshoot common simulator issues.
- Restart and reset equipment when required.
- Resolve basic POS and booking system issues.
- Identify when something needs to be escalated.
- Communicate clearly with X-Golf Technical Support.
- Record and communicate ongoing equipment issues.
The expectation isn't that you know everything — it's that you're willing to have a go, find the answer and follow the problem through.
COMMUNICATION & ADMIN
You'll help keep things moving behind the scenes by:
- Responding to phone, email and customer enquiries.
- Following up function and booking enquiries.
- Communicating upcoming functions and events to the team.
- Completing incident reports when required.
- Keeping everyone informed of important customer, staff or operational issues.
We value clear communication and follow-through. If you say you're going to do something, we expect it to get done.
TARGETS & ACCOUNTABILITY
We're a fun venue, but we're also a business.
The Assistant Venue Manager will work with the owner and all staff towards agreed targets across areas such as:
- Revenue and sales
- Membership growth
- X-League participation
- Function enquiries and bookings
- Lessons and coaching referrals
- Customer return rate
- Customer feedback and reviews
- Labour management
- Venue standards
- Function execution
- Enquiry follow-up and conversion
Targets will be communicated clearly and reviewed regularly.
If we're smashing them, we'll celebrate it.
If we're not, we'll work out why, make a plan and improve.
What matters most is that you care about the numbers, understand how your actions affect them and take ownership of helping the venue succeed.

We're looking for someone who wants to help run the place.
