Primary objective
Support the Paediatric service to provide care to both inpatients (general paediatric and neonatal intensive care) and
ambulatory patients within the Royal Darwin Hospital, regional hospitals and remote communities.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide inpatient care to patients on the general paediatric wards, and in the neonatal intensive care unit.
2. Provide routine and emergency after-hours care on a rotating roster basis
3. Conduct general paediatric outpatient clinics at Royal Darwin Hospital.
4. Participate in the provision of specialist paediatric outreach services to Regional Hospitals and remote communities.
5. Supervise, support and evaluate the work of junior staff in the provision of inpatient care.
6. Participate in continuous medical education, professional development, peer review, research, teaching, quality
improvement activities and clinical audits as appropriate.
7. Liaise with medical, allied health, nursing and external agencies to provide input into departmental and hospital policies,
procedures and guidelines, in line with national and international best practise
8. Participate in Quality Control and Quality Assurance activities of the unit, for the ongoing development of specialist
Paediatric services in the Northern Territory.
9. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken, in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
10. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Eligible for general registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
2. A minimum of 3 years paediatric experience incorporating inpatient and outpatient care and be within 2 years of
completing fellowship training.
3. A minimum of 6 months experience in a neonatal intensive care unit.
4. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact positively as a team member in
a cross-cultural work environment.
5. A demonstrated interest in and commitment to improving Indigenous child health.
6. Evidence of commitment to continuing education, teaching, research and quality assurance activities.
